Slight trouble starting after rain

Hey guys,

So I've mostly sorted out all the issues that have been plaguing my car over the last year and with the installation of new ignition wires, I solves a lot of the enigine's flakiness.

I still have one slight problem. If the car is caught out in the rain, the next time I try and start it it will fire up ok initially, but then after a couple seconds the revs drop and the engine fights to stay alive for a few seconds, almost dying and letting out a couple of subtle, "pop- pop" noises. At this point is catches itself and all is fine from there on!

Obviously a little water is getting in somewhere, but where I don't know. I'm quite sure the dist cap is dry. I know my injectors need replacing soon and the sleeves are a little loose. Could water get in there and cause this? I figured any that did get in would be immediately burned...although if it's getting in the fuel mixture itself then maybe.

Ideas?

Thanks guys,

Nik

I have the same problem after washing the car. Even if I bag the engine! What is getting wet?

Yeah, forgot to mention that while it's doing the "almost dying" thing, throttle input has no effect.

I thought about getting a rubber bath mat and cutting it to size to fit the offending opening where water tends to gravitate. But then I figured it would run a bit warm if I forgot it was on when I got in and took off. Hasn't happened except 2 times both at the carwash.

You'd think the opening could be ventilated yet not let water fall directly though. Oh well. Anybody know what's getting wet to cause this?

Thanks

Nik

Hmm, so turn out my start problem is not just post rain. I've had it the last couple times I've started (cold) and it's been dry for days. The symptoms are the same as I stated above though.
