Small sping plate mod idea - good or bad?
I'm in the middle of replacing my rear torsion bars. The head on one of my spring plate adjuster bolts - the forward 'static' one that just clamps the two halves together - is rounded pretty good. My idea is to just tack weld it to the spring plate, so you don't have to use the small end of the ride height wrench to hold it while you loosen the spring plate. I would still be able to slide the plates as usual, I'm simply obsolecing 1/2 of the ride height wrench.
Good idea? Bad idea? I've always had a b!tch of a time holding the forward one to tighten or loosen the spring plate. This would make corner balancing just one smidge easier. I honestly don't see a downside, other than a remote chance of metallurgical changes to the spring plate, but then again, I'm just going to tack it in place.

Weld it, I think that is a great idea even for those that have a perfectly good bolt..............

My only concern would be altering the heat treat in the heat affected zone.

If it’s the one I think it is, they are part of the “fine tuning” ride height adjusters. They aren’t as handy as the after market ($$$) ones but still can ease the whole ride height corner balance process.

Did it to mine a couple of years ago. No problems.

I went ahead and did it, and so far it looks like it's a helpful mod; it did make it easier to use the adjustable spring plate to tune the ride height, but then my torsion bars broke, so I get to do it all over again.
