67s w/points self tapped into distributor - help

just got 1968 2.0s back from mechanic and he has used a self tapping screw to secure the points to the distributor, whilst this works, I can't imagine is a good long term solution.

what are people's thoughts, i'm assuming that i can buy replacement parts to fix this, and may need a new distributor A-602-021-50 - $$$, no longer available...

is the AMD option a solution?

many thanks Rich

I don't think it's a major problem. Unless you are going for concours and don't want a judge to pop the cap....

Infact I've had to resort to a self tapper myself a few times over the years. Sometimes because the thread in the base of the distributor get's stripped, and sometimes because of a screw dropped into nowhere land. That said 911's are one of the easiest cars in the world to change points on, so dropping and losing the screw is possible but not likely

They say - never buy a car from a mechanic ! However this should not be a big problem. If the screw comes loose, you can always dismantle the distributor, weld the hole, drill and tap a new thread.
