Yes some more braking questions long / Wilwood vs Boxster
Hi,
I currently have Carrera brakes in the front, and well I what more stopping power. I was looking a WilWood Calipers and Boxster Calipers Both are 4 piston and light. Both need to have some type of bracket to mount to my 3.5 holes. The Wilwood are priced very nice so What do I do? A. Has anyone used the Wilwood's what did it take to make it work? What do you think? B Have you used the Boxster brake on the front, what did it take to make it work, what do you think? C. What are "Hats" D. Can I keep the 16' rims? http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?form_cat_id=533,260,49,363&action=category Thanks Derek Car in question ![]()

There are lots of threads on the boxster brakes at the front. From reading the threads, the boxster calipers will fit 15" wheels. Most people if opting for the boxster brakes at the front upgrade the rears to Carerra brakes to keep the bias correct.

From my experience, there isn't much to it. Get the Boxster front calipers (not Boxster "S"; call Porsche dismantlers) and the adapters (www.tremotorsports.com and others), switch the cross-over tube and the bleed screws (so that the smaller piston is the leading one), use pads that won't squeal, bolt the calipers on, and bend a new hard line. That's it.
Here is a thread. Pics Of My Brake Rebuild (w/ Boxster Fronts) What do I think? Well, I haven't done any track or AX since the brake work, so all I know is how the brakes work on the street, and they work great, but to be honest they worked well before too, so basically I now have brakes that are somewhat more powerful, need somewhat more care to avoid locking up, and look a whole lot nicer.

Just incase you have not seen Bill V's page on brake mods here it is:
http://home.nycap.rr.com/wmv/generalbrmd.htm there is a small fortune of information and links from that page. If you happen to have some spare time at work today it is a good way to blow an hour.

Have you looked at this? http://www.boxermotorsports.com/who.asp
I have their front and rear upgrade. Just completed my project so I can't give you any feedback on performance. But it was pretty much bolt in. Uses Wilwood rotors up front (11.25x1.25) and Outlaw calipers. Billet, used in Nascar Truck series. Check out http://www.outlawdiscbrakes.com/ I believe is their 4000 series. Rotors are cheap about $45 ea., pads are common type used by other types of racing cars. They make them for both 3 and 3.5" strut spacing. Saved me some $$. They use a smaller caliper in back with Carrera rotors. Lou

You can specify rotor thickness for Wilwood calipers. If you want Wilwoods, you should primarily consider the Dynapro. Unlike the older Dynalite and Superlite calipers that gave Wilwood a bad name, the Dynapro is a forged, modern design with dust boots. It also can be ordered in a width to fit 20mm SC rotors and piston size to match the stock bias and work with the stock MC. Pad height looks pretty good too.
Go on--be a guinea pig and try them! ![]() ![]() Edit: as near as I can figure, you want the 35.1mm pistons (for a piston area of 1935mm˛ vs 1809mm˛ stock). Part number 120-7376: http://www.wilwood.com/PDF/fl119.pdf Last edited by RallyJon; 06-15-2005 at 05:58 AM.. |

Bill, what do you think of these mounting "hats"? (They call it Dynamic Mount Plate) Looks like they wouldn't add any undesirable offset....

In case it isn't clear the hat is the smaller dia. part that looks like a ... well, a "hat" if you think of the wide brim as being the rotor itself. It's the part that has depth to it in the pics above.
