That old 4 door confusion

Well, it happened to me for the first time tonight. I pulled up to the pumps in the 72 and got out, as the teenage attendant walked out from one of the bays. "You'll have to move, your gas tank's on the other side" he says. "Nah, that's the oil tank...fuel's over here" I reply. Wide eyed look..."OIL TANK?"

This launches a description of the dry sump system..."9 1/2 quarts!!??..Wow!" So this is followed by a thorough checkout of the car...seemed like he'd never seen a 911 up close. "What year? How many miles?" "Wow, a 72 with only 86,000 miles!".

Etc., Etc. Best line was on leaving..."If you keep it in as nice shape as it is now, it should be worth something some day."

Kids.

Garage
I had to look at the date on this post!
An attendant walked out when you pulled up to the pumps?
You must be living in a "time warp"!
Seriously, I too, have found more than a few teenage guys that show more than a casual interest in the old "four door". I guess there's still hope!

Probably a farm kid. My Grandfather had a farm in Pittstown when I was a kid in the 1960s. That's why you can't pump your own gas in NJ, it educates the youth.
regards,
Steve

This was about 5 miles from Pittstown, but there aren't many farms left around here. All McMansions now.

I bet! I think my Grandpa sold his land at about $250/acre.
I remember Darirumples(sp?) Grocery Store and a small garage
(name will come to me after I click submit) in town.
regards,
Steve

At 12 I loved the 356 Speedster already... quickly learned it would be completely out of my budget range by the time I would be allowed to drive. Sure enough, now that we're 13 years later, it is still out of my budget range and the gap is growing faster than my salary increase.

My point: in 91 I loved a 56 (I think the speedster was built in 56, but would need to check)... I don't think it is so exceptional for teens to like older cars. But who knows, because I did doesn't mean anybody else did...
