Why does my left rear keep de-cambering?
I can't keep my left rear tire from decambering on the autocross course. Sometimes it only takes the first turn to go from -1.5deg to -.7deg. My Hoosiers even have nice cuts in the sidewall from the fenders (not exactly confidence inspiring on a third gear course)
I have put a new eccentric bolt in, torqued the bejabers out of the two rear bolts that are supposed to hold the setting on the trailing arm, and recently took the arm apart to cleaned all the dirt and grime from between the plates (...this only made it worse as I took it down to bare metal) I've had this problem for quite some time. I thought I had it licked last year before I went to the Canadian Nationals by putting all new hardware in. But I spent all my time between runs adjusting the camber back (the best I could) with my Smart Guage. The one thing that I have noticed is that my swaybar is connected to the eccentric camber bolt instead of the eccentric toe bolt by the previous owner. Could this cause a problem? I have had no problems on the right side though... Another thought I've had is to put some caulking (like the stuff used on the front camber plates) between the plates to keep them from moving. Any opinions? Thanks S.Chapman A/SP 911 C/S 914 |

What sway bar?
I've had 2 weltmeister cam bolts break. Torque setting is lower than factory hardware.

I've got an adjustable AJ bar that I upgraded with better grade endlinks and bolts. The better grade bolt going into the eccentric is still the same size though.
I should point out that after the wheel goes out of adjustment the eccentric has moved but the two rear bolts on the trailing arm are just as tight as ever. I thought that the eccentric should just position the settings and the rear bolts would do all the holding. This is why I think it is slipping between the plates. S.Chapman A/SP 911 C/S 914 |
