R+R shift bushings-do I remove the console?

I received my Pelican order today that includes the brass shift coupler bushings, the cup bushing and the shift rod bushing. I understand how to do the brass bushings but my question is in regards to the other 2 bushings. My 83SC has a center console do I have to remove the console to get to the shifter? I'm a little nervous on removing the console as I have good working AC and don't want to disturb the capillary tube in the console that goes to the evaporator. Any advice is welcome. Thanks

Removing the console is not hard, there are two screws under the dash and one at the front (under the brake handle). You don't have to unplug the electrics for the AC. Removing the shift plate is sometimes hard because the hex bolts need alot of leverage. The bushings are not hard to replace (cup and shift rod). The shift coupler is more difficult because you have to press out the old bushings. I have not done this yet. You have to remove the plate over the coupler under the rear carpet. There is a Pelican Tech article about this that is helpful with pictures.

I disagree about the console removal being easy. My console has the A/C controls, stereo fader, hazard switch and rear window defogger switch. It took a long time to figure out how to get the thing out of there because the Bentley manual procedure SUCKS. The problem is all the switches and knowing which harnesses have to be disconnected, pulling the knob off the A/C temp switch and pushing it through and disconnecting the A/C fan switch inside the console. What really made it a PITA is the fact that you can't pull it off the shifter until you get all the stuff disconnected, because the brake handle is in the way. To sum up, getting the console out is a ROYAL PITA.

Prepping to change out the shifter bushing/cup on my '89, G50. Some great threads out there as to this procedure. It does appear that various latter models are a bit different. I viewed my harness today and was surprised to see the shortness. It looks like it could a bit challenging and NOT a simple "unbolt & remove", like in some earlier models. I see the pain coming....must be quite careful here, with connectors and such.

Tomroow's D-day,..will update then.

Best,...and thanks for all the info!
