Sounds like vapor lock...but skeptical
I have done a lot of searching and reading. I do not think this is another vapor lock thread, but as of yet I am still troubleshooting. Here is the story:
Just got done baselining my baby. Took her out today and took her for a spin. She felt fantastic until we crossed 3k. Then she choked until I left off the gas and dropped her down again. Throughout the run she continued to chole at around 3000 rpms...sometimes a little more sometimes a little less. Later in the afternoon when someone else was driving her she killed and would not start. We let her sit outside for 2 hours and she still did not start. Now the temp was 90-100 degrees today. Presently the car is my garge and we are going to try again when it cools off tonight. Any ideas? I did not change the fuel filter and I will have one tomorrow morning. Outside of that I am clueless. IS it the DME? Last edited by Dionikes; 06-24-2005 at 05:37 AM.. |

I'm not sure I've ever heard of any 911 getting vapor lock, much less a fuel injected 911. More likely a bad DME relay or clogged fuel system or bad fuel pump. Change out the DME relay first as it is the easiest and relatively cheap to do.

Yeah, I tired to start her last night...no go. SO it is definitely not vapor lock. I plan on replaceing the filter and DME. Hoping that fixes the problem.
After that the fuel pump...after that she goes to the mechanic. |

Bleed the injector rail, see if car starts, check fuel pressure - should be @ 2.5 bar. Leave the fuel pressure guage on, go drive car, see if it dies, check pressure at cut-out. My bet, the guage willl be pegged.
Mine would lock at 6000rpm, turned out to be a bad fuel regulator. Same symptoms. Hydro lock. Spent a lot of bread to find/fix this problem. '87 Carrera. Part doesn't fail often, but when it does...

The plan right now is to change the DME. If that does not fix it test the fuel pump. If the pump checks out...I am sending her to the wrench.
I leave on SUnday so my Dad will finish teh work. I got to drive her a few miles before I left. |
