people...people... dont turn this into a 911 vs 914 war... i dont think anybody is trying to point fingers. island has a valid point, not only that there is the possiblilty it was a 914er that did it, but that it could be anybody. Who knows. I think he also was trying to imply that we should check part pages of other porsche-dedicated sites---there's always somebody who posts a part thats unrelated to the site. Besides, why do we have the "moved post" function in forums?

mik... I feel for you man... i hope those bastards get caught... I would definitely be out driving a lot now looking around. I know nothing about your area, so I can't say much in detail. But all previous ideas have been great.

I would suggest also that when you go out hunting around, don't take your audi. It's possible the theives have been tracking you for a bit and know you have an audi also...and if they see you in the area, they may leave. The best would probably be to switch up cars (rentals?) every few hunts, and take several diff. routes.

I would definitely keep an eye out on ebay, and other sites. I believe craiglist.com or something like that has parts listings. Also notify authorites in surrounding states, possibly some sort of federal authority. Yes, some people may think federal is pushing it but if you really think about it, it only takes any ONE clue to find the car and/or perp.

I always hate to hear stolen car stories. Don't you think you should go pick up those stolen parts though to at least give them a proper burial (metaphorically) or something. Not trying to be a smart ass here at all. I am presently on day 2 of ridding my once stolen motorcycle to work and I am on cloud nine. W/O TMI my bike was stolen over 2 years ago. Much like your situation had no full coverage (will NEVER do that again)got a letter from the DMV saying CMPD recovered my bike double parked in the god damn hood and it was now at a impound yard. WENT CRAZY with adulation, bounced off the walls, then went to the impound yard with a U-haul .....The woman walked me back to where the "bikes" are kept.... I looked at her kinda like....I meant MOTORCYCLES not BICYCLES b/c the bikes were so scrapped out that is what they looked like. I should have brought a wheel barrel not a U-Hual. Anyway, I saw my bike, it wasn't to too bad, relatively speaking. 2 years later, $1500 in parts off of ebay and hours of work and like I said I am now on day 2 of riding my bike to work again and it feels kinda like a kick in the balls to all thieves every time I roll on to that throttle and accelerate so fast I almost bruise my ass on the seat cowl. I would say they left the seats because they were easy to spot, they can just paint the other things.seats are in the open.

Also contact DMV - you want to see any 911s registered after the date it was stolen - esp. if they have a salvage title.

island: thanks, it is one more lead to look into. i am not assuming that anyone from any group is guilty or innocent. it may well be someone lurking on the pelican list, just watching...

horspowr1001: good tips also. i have a couple friends who will gladly take me for a drive in their cars. and i have no aversion to talking to feds about possible interstate trafficking.

coolbeverage: glad you got the sv back. i am a big fan. i recently sold my beloved cb1, and plan to replace it with an older-style sv. a good friend is an AMAZING sv tuner. obsessive, even. if you ever want to do an overbore, let me know. i will try to get you a deal on the best sv machine work on the planet.

i do not know what to think of the seats. just seems weird. and i guess i should at least drop by and look at everything. if there is anything left with a porsche badge or logo, it would make a nice little token. oh, yeah, she said that the steering wheel is still there, attached to some jagged metal. the wheel would look good on the wall...

mik...if you had a CB1 you would love a SV. I actually started into bikes on a CB1...Ahhhh very found memories of that bike. Plus as you probably already know you can get a SV on the cheap. Lots of torque and bang for your buck. Way more fun than a inline 4 bike if you ask me.

Mik, i've been watching Craigslist nearly daily for you. I've been looking for some Integra parts for a friend, but i always search for Porsche. IMHO Craigs list is a heavan for stolen parts.

To everyone else, I have recently gone thru a full inspection on my car which I repaired after crashing hard nearly 2 years ago. let me tell you, the WSP is not messing around. all parts on the car need to be documented including donor VIN #s. also, receipts off of Ebay do NOT count. in fact, if anything they make you look like you are trying to hide something. just FYI. if anyone has questions, i'd be happy to share my experiences.

Wash. State used to have a very good inspection system for out of state cars and "rebuilt" salvages. As you know, they poked around the car, looked at the "hidden" VIN's and you had to have receipt for your parts. Last year the whole system was scrapped due to budget cuts....Now, take your title to DMV, tell 'em you got your "totaled" rig running and wanna buy tags....

interesting Bob, do you know when these changes took place? I think its been about 6 months since i did my car.
