stolen sc found. sort of.
just this afternoon, i told a co-worker how after three weeks, i was really wanting to drive my 911. seriously, 30 seconds later, the call came.
evidently, a WA state trooper saw 'some parts of a car' at the side of the road in south kitsap county. there was enough there that he knew it was a 911. i am told that in the evidence yard in port orchard, there lies 'about 1/4' of my car. i can't wait until saturday, when i can go look it over. i want to find the piece of ***** that did this. |
I know how it feels...I had my car stolen a few months back. Hopefully you'll be reimbursed for your loss.

justifiable homicide..

Mik, glad they found your car and sorry about the condition. Hope the ones who did it get caught.
|
thanks, all. i do not know whether i can pull it off, but for my next trick, i would really like to get ky's 1976 s roller. if i could pull that off and temporarily put a vw engine in it, thereby making kind of a 912, i would be a shoe-in for gruppe b. and all of its privileges...or is it restrictions...?
anyhow. again, i do not have any real details, but the woman from spd who called said that the parts include a door and the roof. roof? was there a sawsall involved, or is the shell just chillin'? i am eager to see. as for reimbursement: no. long, stupid story. temporarily not covered with comprehensive. stupid. |
Tell us briefly the insurance mix-up. Maybe it'll help someone else avoid the same mistake.
(BTW, GruppeB welcomes you and your future Porsche/VW bastard child) |

bad choice. it may be some time before i emerge in gruppeb, or even behind the wheel of anything besides the surviving audi 5000s. but i am holding out a little hope that enough parts turn up to point toward the bastard(s) who did all this. the kitsap deputy i spoke with told me that they are actually pretty aggressively checking all parts for fingerprints. that surprised and delighted me. hopefully, there will be prints that show that he/she/they have prior convictions. damn. |
Was the car crached or was it dumped there?

damn, mik..guess no chance that your car was a targa 'roof'..had a brand new '84 pontiac trans am stolen from in front of my college dorm in memphis back in '84..thieves stripped simple stuff and set it on fire..i remember how it sucked to go to the junkyard where it had been impounded. damn the luck on the insurance too..sounds like what would happen to me. i've been considering going to full coverage..sounds like i ought to make the jump.

I'm tryin' to help you, man! Can't imagine.

Even if they catch the crooks, you think they'll hand you your money back?
I am w/o full coverage also. It's statistics. Unfortunately, if the bad luck hits you, you don't care much about statistics any more! Hang in there ... George |
Mik, sorry to his this man. we were all looking around the city for your car. everyone please keep on eye on Ebay, etc for Mik's parts. maybe they will get this tosser.
|
hey, i appreciate everyone having kept an eye out. i just can't get over the fact that this is the ONLY car (911's in general) that i have ever wanted. i am such a motorcycle person, and always have been. but the 911 is passion on four wheels. ****.
george: if they catch them, i expect to get nothing back. i would just hope to get the engine, tranny and wheels. that would be a good enough starting point to jump on a roller. and a question to everyone: i know that in WA someone has to have something like seven GTA convictions for anything of consequence to happen to them. would i have any chance of gaining anything in a civil suit? could i even file one? i mean, if the guy has a house, a pickup, and a camaro or two, is there not some way to get blood from the turnip? i have spent the last three weeks getting whiplash, looking up and down every side street and alley. as i discussed with kie earlier today, the only even slightly good thing that i can find in the recovery is that now i do not have to wonder. i do not have to tensely look every which way, hoping for a glimpse of my car driving by one block over, or sticking out of a backyard shed. but meanwhile, disappointment and sadness have turned completely to rage. i am now just so pissed, that someone just decided to take this particular thing that did not belong to them. added after reflecting: on the other hand, nothing really matters. my five month old daughter learned to giggle today. yeah. |
Kids can make you forget or at least put aside everything else!
Good luck and I hope to see you back in the saddle again. |
if you haven't already, call all the shops in the area to look out for white body parts, etc, that someone is trying to peddle. MAX RPM in bremerton too. Wagonwerks in shelton. ask them if there are any other shops over there who work on 911s.
|
John's got a great point, you might want to take it a step further and check out not only Porsche specific shops but smaller body shops that might be more tempted to recieve slick parts on the side............also if that shop has a 911 of you vintage to work on you might keep an eye on them even if they tell you no they haven't seen anything...

I'm sorry to hear about your loss (darn that sounds like a statement made at a funeral). Mik's bad experience is a lesson to us all. Even if you can't afford collision, most insurers will give you comprehensive insurance with your liability. Most times, the Comp is almost nill compared to collision. By the way, Comp also covers fire and windshield damage from stone chips.
Disclaimer: No, I am not an insurance salesman. |
Pretty sure a local car thief got busted here when the owner started scouring eBay and found parts of his Audi. eBay told the cops where to find the perp.
As for insur., I don't care what it costs - it's worth it. Everyone hates lawyers and insurance companies until you need one. Writing that check to USAA every 6 mos. and even to Laurel for my DE insur. is a happy occasion for me. Really. |
