What Exactly Does "corner Balance" Mean

Excuse my ignorance. Is it not enough having the wheels aligned and wheels balanced?

An equal corner balance means the cross corner weights match. For a car turning right and left (like a typical road course car) the goal is a 50%/50% corner balance. The left front and right rear total should equal the total for the right front and left rear. You also want the front to rear balance to match from side to side as well as the total LF-LR compared to the total RF-RR It should be measured with driver in the car. Depending on track configuration you may want to weight jack different corners to get the car to do different things. This is similar the the heavy left side loading that Nextel Cup cars use. They want the weight to the inside so the car turns left more easily and gets better grip through left turns. They do a bunch more stuff to get them to turn better, not just corner loading.

Carl: As per Shewood and Bill V., that is a pretty definitive link. I have it on four hard drives and a print copy hanging on the garage wall. Pat
