You all suck
I hate everyone here. After convincing me (against my will) to bring the car on the cross country trip, and after subjecting me to endless discussions of how much fun the cars are, and how fast they can go, I decided to make a high speed run in montana, resulting in dinged valves on cyl's 5 and 6. I know there is a lot of blame to be shared for my missshift, and as far as I can tell, most of it lies on you guys.
So I take it to Deman Motorsports, up in Nyack (the people behind the creation of This Car, among others. An evil, twisted place with a lot of high end race cars there to tempt poor individuals like myself. As an example of the evil there, Rick Deman earler convinced me that I would be better off with 964 cams, to be installed with the inevitable valve guide replacement work. Ok, fine, I went and bought them. Now the engine is in pieces up in their shop: I had thought that they were just going to put it back together, but Chris Bennett had to pipe up and tell me about some little upgrades (ARP rod bolts, stiffer springs) to lure me up to the shop. So I get there, and I am ambushed by the evil forces of Nyack. Rick is holding the engine hostage, and refused to put it back together unless I accepted a screaming deal on a set of Mahle 3.4 pistons and cylinders. As incentive, he showed me the pieces of my engine and assured me that he would mail them to motormeister, one at a time, until I agreed. So that's going together as we speak. When I have some more cash, we're going to replace the exhaust system as well, which now looks decidedly restrictive. I will keep you all posted. Since I'm on summer break (job starts in two weeks) I will go and plead for mercy (and take pics) on a regular basis.

So how fast were you going when this happened?
NYC to Montana for hi speed runs - that's what I call dedicated! If that story was meant to be kinda' funny - I found it hilarious. If not - it's still kinda' funny.

hmm, clarifications - If I was serious, it would be a severe compromise of my own sense of willpower and self-determination. I do hold you guys responsible as enablers, but I do these things to myself.
I was on a cross country trip, in part to go fast, but mostly to do the trip. Cliff, I was clearly obeying the marked speed limits, as ordained by our logical elected officials. But, I have heard that things like this can happen when one is doing 120, and tries to go from 4th to 5th, while seeing a deer on the side of the road, and puts it into 3rd. Then one could hear the engine spinning up much faster than it should in 5th, and put the clutch back in, thereby saving the engine from destruction and merely dinging two valves, allowing the engine to then get them the 1500 miles back to NY without further drama, but with heightened oil consumption. At least, I heard a couple of stories along those lines. Jeremy, which chip are you going with? what else are you doing to the engine? I'm about to post another thread along these lines, so chime in there with questions and advice. Edit: 3.4 Thread Here

Update: Steve Wong sucks too. I emailed him, and he called me back yesterday, sunday of July 4th weekend, to tell me about the wonders of his chips, and offer me all sorts of great service - sending a chip to start things out, sending another one when we hit the dyno and find out the AFR data, and then being there in the future to help modify the code and send more chips as I change the engine. It's a conspiracy, I tell you.

Your getting too old now, death is around the corner - enjoy or parish in a sad state of disrepair... (On a separate note, at least you have some intel to share with the grand kids)

The evil here has me modifiying a perfectly good 911 with only 25,000 miles on the clock. The dark side of the force is strong on this site. First, it was tires that don't shake above 50mph, the Pirelli's weren't good enough, but it didn't stop there, on no, it went way beyond this leve. Those, the most cruel among you, the cognocenti insisted that I must upgrade from 15 inch wheels to 16 inch wheels, and get them handled by one of the master wheel gurus, which will cost me hundreds of US dollars, or more. But, you didn't stop there, oh no, you had to interject the proper tire type, the S0-3 from Saint Bridgestone, which will vanquish all others on the continent. I dont know what I should do, but may your S0-3's be soft until I annoint them with my oils.

PWD - Yes.
Leland - I do suck. I realized, when I got back, that I could have seen a lot of guys, and a lot of cool cars, along the way. The problem was that while my trip out was planned, my trip back was more spur of the moment, making it harder to schedule stops and visits. Dane - ouch. Let's hope not.
