24" too low?
I am looking for some input!
I bought another 88' 911 and want to reverse some of the changes previous owners made. The car has 17" C 2 wheels (made for the 964 model) and was lowered in the rear to 23" from the ground to the center of the rear wheel well. I want to drive this car on the street most of the time, maybe an occasional drivers ed or autocross day. Which height is the best? The factory setting I believe is 25.5", I also read somewhere that this was usually adjusted down by one inch as soon as the cars hit US showrooms, that would make it 24.5". Is the height just personal preference or are there practical reasons to stick to a certain setting? Thanks |

That's a bit low since you have 17" wheels, watch it on driveways and intersections!

The 25.5" factory stock setting was arbitrarily achieved by inserting an inch-thick washer at the top of the shock strut, to meet U.S. bumper regs in certain model years. The washers being taken out "as soon as the cars hit US showrooms" I doubt, since that would be as illegal for a new-car dealer to do as would r3emoving the cat, but certatinly handy owners did it.
As for 24 inches in front, that's pretty low, and it depends where you live, how steep street/driveway transitions are, how many potholes you have to deal with. Mine isn't quite that low and I have to be extremely c areful to cross various obstacles at an angle and I still hit the front towhooks frequently (albeit slowly), which isn't good. Stephan
