removing flares
I just bought some flares for the rear for a 930 conversion, but when I purchased the rockers, it was fiberglass flares installed on steel. In order for me to put them on my car, I must first remove the fg flare. It has screws every 1 1/2 around the seam and has been stuck on with some type of bonding agent. I'm about to cut out the flare but what do i do about the screws? Is there anyway I can take them off? or do I just grind them off?

Can you unscrew them? Are they visible. A pic would help.

I'll try to take a pic tonight. No you can't unscrew them. They're not visible from the top but only the inner part.

Don't do anything to them unil supply us with pictures for help, depending on what type of adhesive used you may not be able to separate the fiberglass from the steel with out ruining the flares - been there/done that wapita. Also is he flares were adhesive/screwed on then you probably have a thick layer of filler over the screws unless they were countersunk when installed.

The toprusted part is the metal part of the rocker I bought and the bottom is the fiberglass flare. At the edge where they meet, it was somewhat seperated. So I bent the metal a little and it perfectly came off the flare. So I think it's possible to take off but I don't wanna damage the flare. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think grinding the heads down may be your best bet. Then carefully separate.
I'd think the bonding adhesive would be your biggest obstacle.

Can't really tell from the picture but they look like rivets to me more than screws. Take a grinder and grind all of them off and see if the two parts will separate. Let us know what happens after you finish grinding.
(There will have to be some filler on the outside so separate as easily as you possibly can.) |
