Question '68 911 Sportomatic

I've just picked up a Sporto that hasn't been driven more than about 100 miles in the last 15 years. Body and engine are in fairly good shape but both will need work. I bought it as a hobby. I enjoy working on Porsche engines but working on my Boxster engine is more than a just pain in the back. My question on the Sporto; is there any reason not to use Mobil1 in the engine/torque converter? Since the torque converter shares the engine oil, whatever I put in the engine goes to the converter as well.

Thanks for any input.

Tony

I'd check to see that Mobil 1 is not too slippery for the friction bands inside the transmission.

Tony,

Welcome to the Forum. You will find a lot of good info here.

With Mobil 1 I suspect it will leak oil (more.) For the time being keep on dino oil. With that few “recent” miles you are going to need to do careful brake-in.

I know a little about that model and Sportomatics. I’ll be glad to give you a hand. I live about a mile from I-25 and Yale. E-mail me at gradyclay@hotmail.com

Best,
Grady

Thumbs up

Thanks to both of you for the quick reply. You two hit the two concerns I had about Mobil1. I use it in my other cars and had thought it would be good to only stock one kind of oil, but I had concerns. Thanks for answering.

Just in case you haven't run into this site via Google or such, have a look there for Sporto info. Sportomatic.org

Regards,

Dennis

P.S. Why would I know that site? Here's one of the pics from my personal website.
