Bike racks for 911SC, Thule?

In an increased effort to get myself into better shape, I have bought myself a mountain bike, however I now need to get a bike rack for my SC. Does anyone have any opinions on the Thule?

I'm looking for something that isnt too expensive... I'm not an avid biker, just need something functional.

Maybe a VW Beetle bike rack can fix.

You could put on a towing hook, and have one of those cheap "snap on" bike racks. I did that on my peugeot 206cc to transport MTB's.

How about snapping off the wheels and have it inside ??

I have some Thules that I used for my Rabbit/GTI and my 911. I didn't use them for hauling bikes but I thought they were made well.

Thule part # 300 for the "feet" for the 911 rain gutter style ~$175-$200/set of 4. Load bars are part # LB-50 ~$50/set of 2.
You can upgrade the foot fasteners to accept the locking cylinders ~$50/set of 4. The whole thing ~$240-$280, depending where you buy. Then, for the bike mount you have to buy that set-up...no idea how much that is. I use mine to haul race tires to the track.

Bought a used Thule on Ebay. Lots of people were getting rid of these old rain gutter style racks a while back. I use it to haul a surf board. With a little work the bike fits inside the car, wheels in trunk. But two bikes forget it. Just be careful not to bend your rain gutters --these racks crank down pretty strongly on them.

Thule and Yakima bike racks are both top notch. The Yakima with round bars might work a little better on a 911 because of the slopping roof line. Thule cross bars are rectangular and probably work a little better with a flatter roof line but I'm sure they both can be made to work.

With either you probably need a long one-piece bike carrier since the cross bars will be relatively close together.

i've used yakima racks on my vw bugs, and now on my '78sc for years and they work well. just be sure that the towers that clamp onto the rain gutters are tall enough for the round cross members to clear the hump in the roof. i use a bike tray that holds the rear tire and locks the front forks on the cross member (you have to remove the front wheel); better in my opinion for lower center of gravity and less sway in the bike when you're driving in the twisties...

I've use Thule racks & they have been fine, my dealer recommended 2 different "feet" heights - a taller one at the rear to enable a decent gap between the cross-bars.
