Wong chip question

Wondering which chip is most commonly purchased from 911chips as far as the octane rating. I have the pre-muffler/sport muffler combination and he offers a 91 and 93 octane chip. How much of a difference is there between the two? I usually always put either 92 or 93 in the car anyway.

I did speak with him and actually bought the 91 chip. Major difference in the low and mid range, it's really nice there but I did not notice much if anything on the high end above 4.5K He said the 93 chip provides a bit better throttle response and about 3 additional ponies on the high end which you really wouldn't notice that much. With the 93 chip you must use 93 and at a minimum 92 octane fuel but the 91 you can use higher if you want. I guess it's the availability of 93 in your area and your concern for the cost of petrol these day's that dictate which chip you get, unless you track your car then of course it's 93 all the way. Also if you drive in a hot weather area then the 91 would be a better bet. I mentioned to Steve about the lack of additional kick above 4.5K and he attributes that to the power coming on now much lower in the range, which I do agree, it's very noticeable, so the transition from mid to hi range is much smoother and not as much of a kick is experienced but he guarantees that there's at least 10 more ponies up there than before. I can see his point. I was just basing my feedback on previous posts on this site and on his website where many users stated that they noticed this nice kick on the high end so that's what I was looking for. Although I do not know the condition of their cars and how it ran before their chip install. Steve's a good guy and want's his customers to be happy, I sincerely believe this and as always has offered to swap my 91 out for a 93 whenever I want which is totally cool!

It's all a matter of how far you want to "push" the ignition timing.

Hello Loren and thanks for the link and input. I actually have been to that site and read the data and it's good to know about the perils of too advanced timing. I am hoping someone else has used both the 91 and 93 chip and could share their opinion. Perhaps I will be the one to do this. I did toss 20 oz of Techron in a full tank of 93 octane before I installed the chip and am wondering if that may have some effect on the gas and it's octane level. I will run the tank out, although the manual states to run it to 1/2 level then fill it up again, so It will be a bit before I can rule out the Techron. I will not make a decision on upgrading to the 93 chip before I have spotless fuel in the present set up!

My car had an Autothority and now a SW chip. Very pleased with the SW chip. Your car is a ticking time bomb according to you know who,

I wanted to follow up on my final outcome.I just swapped out the 91 for the 93 chip and although I can't notice much of a difference ( Steve did say that it's not really noticeable ) the car does sound a bit nicer with some popping when I let off the gas at high RPM's above 5K. Not sure if it's normal but does sound nice. I'll keep the 93 and go on Steve W's reputation and success that I'm squeezing about 3 more ponies and a tad better throttle response out of it. I've been screaming past people and with the fabspeed and flowmaster exhaust when I look in the rear view I have noticed a thumbs up from the right folks.

It seems there is a guy in the north of England who can do the job for me. He said that he can build me a 1 inlet, 1 outlet same side muffler and do all the fabrication for my car for around the same as your muffler cost you. Also it will be in Stainless which will be awesome.

I am probably going to allow him to use the Fabspeed bypass as a donar for a flange and tailpipe as its already so well finished. Also I am hoping that will reduce the price of the install.

When its done I will post pics.

Good luck with it. Sounds like a great deal in stainless. Flowmaster offers most of their mufflers in SS for a delta of less than $100 but not the Series 80 due to low volume. For $115 I'm happy as hell with it.
