Need used Mag case 901 diff cover

The diff cover plate on my mag case 1969 911S 901 transmission is apparently toast.

The freshly rebuilt transmission went into the car, I ran it for 6 sessions on the track, and it started leaking gear oil like crazy. Upon inspection, it was leaking from the the oil seal in the center of the diff cover.

After removing the cover and inspecting it, its apparent the seal spun and oil was leaking past the outside of the seal. The cover shows wear and a replacement seal just drops in. Its junk. I had never run this transmission before so no idea if its a new problem or was there before.

So, that leaves me needing a new diff cover plate. The alloy one from my other 901 transmission is completely different and does not bolt up.

Anyone have one?

Terry,

You will probably have better luck finding one from a ’70-’71 type 911. They wore out the clutch cable support ring long before any other distress. You can simply cut off the remains of the support ring and fabricate one for the ’69 clutch cable Bowden tube.

When you change this casting, be sure and check/set the differential bearing pre-load. The R&P clearance needs to be checked after the preload is checked/set.

I glue the seal in place (Gaskacinch.) For the track I put five small loops of safety wire through the casting alongside the seal to provide a mechanical lock preventing the seal from coming out.

Best,
Grady
