can this be done?

I have a little delema. I have a 1982sc all origional and wish to keep her that way but.............I am 6-4 and the cabin is just a tad tight. I can deal with first gear bieng in my calf and second deep in my thigh the steering wheel is the issue. I get my hand caught between the wheel and my right leg at times when in second. I am concedering changing the wheel and spacing it further away form the dash but not origional. Has anybody been able to move the factory wheel out? 1.5inches should do the trick. on the lighter side if I keep the gas on the floor I have room for my hand the cops just arn't fans of this fix.

There exists a factory "elevated hub", adds about 1" clearance. They pop up on Ebay from time to time.
