1982 SC Having Problems with Idle and Mixture

I have been having problems with my 1982 SC Ideling when hot and cold.

It all started out where I was having surging problems when the car was hot. I then took it into the shop and Had a full tune up on the car with some other mods including chain tensioners and valve adjust.

I asked them to make sure that it was not surging and they said it wasn't, then I got it back home and drove it around for a while and it started up again, surging when hot.

I brought it back, he made a slight adjustment to the mixture by ear and it stopped the surging when the car was hot and everything was fine. Then the next day it was idleing rough, not surging just low idle.

I then brought it back and we hooked it up to the gas analyzer and it was way to Fat, so he adjusted back down. It seemed to be very touchy. He got it to stick at about 4%. He told me that sometimes the screw adjustment can be very touchy and it can very from car to car. I left and the car was running better than it had in a long time. I parked the car at work and came out 8 hours later and rough idle again !!!!

But, what is weird is that I will get rough Idle when it is cold and when it is hot. Sometimes, it will just disappear when it is warm and start idleing perfect as if the mixture was just right again!

What in the heck is going on???

He said we might be looking at a WUR issue. I asked him about the injectors, he said that typically an injector issue will be very consistant and will not be intermitent.

Do you guys have any other suggestions or ideas so I can make sure we are taking the right path in trouble shooting?

Thanks for your help,

could be a dead oxygen sensor relay, which is next to the computer under the front of the right seat, by the tunnel. get the engine hot, then unplug it for a moment. if the engine falters and runs rougher, then it was working. if nothing happens, first see that the interior light fuse is OK. that's the power source for the relay.

Thanks John, I forgot to say that I have my Oxygen Sensor disconnected. Could the relay still be an issue?

Thanks,

yes, the rest of the system has to function, regardless.
