I am all for it, Island911, let's be social AFTER the drive but get going while it's still cool (And less traffic)
914Ghost: Is Shakti an East Indian Eatery? Or Thailand? If so, count me in! :)
Dane: Ellensburg is out; Wenatchee is in. Are you coming? We need to see the new interior. SmileWavy

914Ghost 08-08-2005 05:34 PM

Shakti!
HA! We get that all the time, no no, her dad was a ...well, hippie- he joined a Hindu church to avoid the 'Nam.
She is named after a nun at the monestary "Shakti Ananda", he brother dubbed "Lucky Mac" - it's pretty rustic Italian, super dark for the romantics. She's pure white-bread.
She blends what she learned from Il' Terazzo, The Brewery at Winthrop and some other places.
I wish it was Thai!

Drago: Will you enforce the $10.- admission fee? :p

8 am is early enough for the drive. Many will have over an hours drive to get there, so we don't want to leave too early.

Yes, there will be a pow wow. Gunter, this is not just a driving event. We will be socializing AND driving. It must be clear that this event is not about sitting in the car for 8 hours with no interaction with the other drivers.

I am not going to administer a slushfund, but if someone else is interested in doing it, then go for it!

jeffgrant 08-08-2005 06:44 PM

I'm in for dinner... and just let me know which hotel to call to make my reservation.

...jeff

914Ghost 08-08-2005 09:49 PM

I think the West Coast Hotel will be the best bang for the buck, I'll get info for all you in the morning and contact info.
Should be fun!

Al S 08-08-2005 09:58 PM

Well I just got back from the Kootenays (Gunter's neck of the woods), and discovered the SCWDP Roundup lives on! Yaahooo!

Can't wait!

BTW I'm in for dinner also...........

914Ghost 08-09-2005 08:31 AM

Okay,
got the block of rooms ready to go at the West Coast Hotel,
Regular Rate is $102, and I reserved as many as 15 rooms, and got $82.00, for 1-2 adults.
CAll 877-964-1234 or 509-662-1234.
And for eats, we dont HAVE TO go to my old lady's place
www.shaktisfinedining.com
I just volunteered it because we have a seperate bar off to the side we could hang out in (she usually charges $500 for the room),- "the Roaster" at the top of the Coast Hotel is okay, but the food ain't great.
Right across the street is Bob's Classic (a burger joint w/ beer).
I just need a final count if we want "DINNER" at my wifes place, or she'll kick me in the nuts. Maybe for real, I dunno.
We can BBQ at my place but it aint huge, and not much parking- I'm a baaaad host. :-)
I'll head up north in ol' orange and meet you guys on Saturday!
Bob O

p.s. I still dont know what SCWDP stands for...where's my decoder ring?

Drago 08-09-2005 08:37 AM

SC World Domination Plot

Gunter 08-09-2005 10:47 AM

I really feel for the folks that will have to drive over an hour to get to Burlington considering that it takes me ~8 hours to even get there.
It's going to be A1 to come down on the #20; I'll be making a test run on Friday just to make sure the road is drivable and the locals are ready to cheer us on the next day Saturday.
What socializing? We could do that by using the Walky-Talkies on the road.SmileWavy
Porsche-driving is life, everything else is just waiting!:D

Here is to the run, Prost! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

Drago 08-09-2005 11:13 AM

Well now that your over-nighting in lovely Wenatchee are you still driving all the way out to the dam or are you cutting it short and just turning off and heading toward Wenatchee via Chelan?

RSlater told be about a nice little twisty hill climb along Hwy 97 up to Waterville...plus there is an offer to stop for a photo-opp in Brewster (free cold beers as well).

Sorry to steal your thunder, RS :)

Thanks for dealing with the room thing...

Your wife's place sounds/looks good to me, so count me in for dinner.

RSlater 08-09-2005 12:18 PM

The hill climb Drago speaks of starts at Chelan Falls and goes up the east side of the river canyon towards Mansfield

Drago 08-09-2005 12:23 PM

I stand corrected. Thanks RS.

jeffgrant 08-09-2005 12:46 PM

Hi-

Just made my reservation.

Was kind of funny, in that she'd never heard of "914Ghost" or the event.

Turns out that they had the paperwork done, but the secretary who enters this stuff into the computer just went into labour. At work. Needless to say, things didn't get processed as per normal. ;)

All is good though... room is reserved.

Thanks again for dealing with that.

Okay Guys, for lunch check this out:
www.twispriverpub.com
I just talked to Glenn, and pointed him to the brwery in Winthrop, but that was wrong (wrong!), THIS is the place you want to stop for lunch. It's right on the Highway in Twisp, Aaron is the owner- tell them Shakti sent you.
Sit on the deck and enjoy. And a lady named "T" will be waiting tables, she's great.
And ask them which roads are best for the drive south from there, if anyone knows, they do!

Drago 08-09-2005 01:00 PM

Free wireless at that pub! Realtime picture posting! Stay tuned in on Saturday afternoon...

Oh yeah . . . we are going to have to do that. :D

The map has been updated.

thanks again ghost

jeffgrant 08-09-2005 01:26 PM

FYI, if anyone's coming down through the Peace Arch, there seems to be at least 3 of us hooking up there at 6am for the convoy down.

The more the merrier.

...jeff

smg 08-09-2005 01:32 PM

Count in one Canadian and one limey meeting Jeff at the Peace Arch.

......... not an SC, but it's air cooled!

Drago 08-09-2005 01:38 PM

Maybe Gunter should drive up to the Peace Arch too...being he's Canadian and all. :)

Nah, then we'd have to listen to him complain about how far he had to drive...;)

Porsche-poor 08-09-2005 02:38 PM

Can't make Saturday but possibly on Sunday. What is the approx. time of departure and route? I might get up and make it a long day trip.

After last Friday's outing with Dane I'm hooked..................

Scooter 08-09-2005 02:38 PM

No, he wouldn't complain about the driving....he would complain about having to STOP at the Peace Arch. Too much Pow Wow. :) -JK

Yeah, as if he doesn't like to chat either :D

Well, I just heard from my copilot's wife. He has clearance so we'll both be there for day one at least.

Gunter 08-09-2005 06:02 PM

Friends and Fellow-Porsche-Nuts:
Pow-wow and chatting is great AFTER the drive.
Over the years, I have been on many runs and hate to wait for late-comers; not only coming late, but ordering breakfast and expect that we just wait. :(
To be sure, Scooter92, Drago, Island911 and others, when you say we start at 8:00, to me that means DRIVING.
If it means to you that at 8:00 you start the socializing, please, let me know.
Saturday is the usual summer-tourist-traffic and sitting in some Donut Shop while the traffic, and the heat, build up doesn't make sense.
We are grown-ups and should be able to appear on time, with a full tank.
On the last run to Salmon Arm, we finally made it out at 10:30 and even then people had to go and gas up first.
I would like to hear some other voices on this: Are we driving at 8:00, or are we meeting at 8:00?

Looks like departure time is 8:00

Yep.

Gunter is right about needing to get an early jump on traffic . That said; this isn't exactly the German train system. If everyone seems to be there, and ready to go at 7:30, then we will leave at 7:39 and 11 seconds. ;)

On the weather;

Cool, didn't know we'd be driving to Spokane/CdA. ;)

ronin 08-10-2005 09:02 AM

try getting a five-day chart for the entire eastern Washington area

and since Spokane is usually a bit hotter than Wenatchee anyway...

Well, that's a touchy subject . .lets talk about something trivial, like the weather.

Dane, how cool does it have to be for you to take your 911 out of the garage?
You know you don't want to miss this. . . .lot's of photo-op's. (and I still haven't seen you car in person.)

Maybe if you install those pop-out qtr windows, you could get some air-flow though the car.

. . .or is it an engine cooling problem, with that big ol' 3.6 stuffed in back there?

Drago 08-10-2005 09:51 AM

Looks like Targa weather to me. :)

Note to self: Bring a hat and lots of sunscreen.

Oh and BTW...I hear the R-Gruppe is heading to Idaho for a hill climb this weekend.

jeffgrant 08-10-2005 10:25 AM

Guys... all kidding aside, us Canuckleheads (except for Gunter) are HOPING to be there at 7:30, but have thrown in an extra half-hour safety net in case of border issues, etc.

Anyone have a cel phone number they can provide me so that we can update you guys if we run into any issues, or deer?

Some how I have come to believe that is probabaly a good thing.

NW Rgruppe has had a drive scheduled to Leavenworth this same weekend for 6 months or so.

But I'll make sure I catch up with you Sat. in Wenatchee.

914Ghost 08-10-2005 10:53 AM

RGruppe in Leavenworth too!?
Wow...we oughtta ambush those guys (are they listening?), maybe have a good ol' crash-up-derby!
Wouldn't mind seeing a couple of those cars in person.
