A while back I loaned "Mike the mechanic" a scope to get to the bottom of some problems he was having with a Patrick pressure plate for just the sort of G50 conversion you are talking about. Long story short, the pressure plate didn't (and couldn't) work because it interfered with the speed and reference sensor signals. I know you asked about the Patrick flywheel but you might want to contact Mike before you buy.

Patrick does make the conversion flywheels, I have also heard of some issues w/ them. I know that Steve Timmins no longer uses them. He has been sourcing his from Germany.

here is the problem: When you shorten the bell housing on the G50, you end up using a 930 turbo flywheel that gets all the teeth machined using the outer circumference. Now where do you put the other sensor pin? Logic tells you the pressure plate BUT with the pressure plate installed, you end up with one of the cast in spaces on the pp where the sensor should reside. What to do? 2 solutions- 1) drill and tap new holes for the pp to sit , drill and tap the pp for the pin OR 2) weld a pin on the inside of the toothed ring so it protrudes into the gap. In either case you will have to modify the sensor support so the sensors are set in depth and height to correspond with the pin and teeth. A pita? definitely, but it will work with either method
We are not worried about the minimal amount of extra weight the welded or threaded in pin gives the assembly. Care should also be given on the total outer diameter, inc the pin, so it clears the bell housing

You should talk to Mike but here is what I recall:
Mike was using a Centerforce pressure plate as part of Patrick's G50 conversion kit. The aluminum pressure plate is attached to the steel friction section by three steel lugs, and those lugs produce an undesired/bogus signal in one or both or the sensors. He was never able to get it to work and if I remember correctly Patrick was never able to give him the name of anyone who had.

you are correct that was his problem , according to him that was their very first set up patrick did, I did mention him ( patrick) as he is the only source I know, maybe Mike will chime in and clear the air.

okay, method #2 worked with an additional mod- if you look at the steel lugs on the pressure plate, they are pretty heavy construction. we removed about 1.5 mm of material. Ths coupled with the "pin" on a flange we welded to the inside of the outer toothed ring gave us enough clearance so the sensor no longer picks up the lugs. Its running great! Sorry- no pics- as we were behind in getting this done

Tre Cup, I am mating a short bell housing 930 trans to my 84 3.2 turbo

Can I use a aftermarket Early 930pp clutch disk and TO Bearing

and buy a 87-89 g50 flywheel and do the same process you have done.

Do you have any picks of the machining?

It would be very helpful

Thank You
