Maybe someone has had this happen to them too? I reassembled my cv joint (the ball races showed a bit of polish but no pitting)and once all the balls are in, the cage can move, although stiffly, and the center hub is locked. I tried another joint with a similar result. I even tried switching greases. Arghh!!!

Thanks for the tips and links.!! I followed the VW service information and now the joints work great. Evidently I was able to put them together with the inner race improperly indexed and this resulted in a hard lock. This board is great. Paul
