Brake Wear at DE

I did my first DE last week at WG. I am somewhat surprised that I incurred so much brake pad and rotor wear on the rears in relation to the front.

Anyone got any idea why that is? I think I know the answer, but I want to get another opinion on this.

Thanks!
Pat

i don't know if this helps...

I had a 325i that had SS lines and great fluid...
but ****ty pads...

they wear alright for a mild track day... but when i got them hot... the compound was way outa its heat range and i would go through a set a DE.

it was like i crossed a line... back off a little bit and the pads would last the whole day... push a little harder and they were toast by the 4th 20min run

but i had 3 free sets of them... so i didn't mind wasting them before i bought new(track) pads.

so maybe your rears got a little more hot then the fronts? which led to accelerated wear? just a WAG..

BTW pat... just made it to AZ... packing your stuff tomorrow.. shipping Monday...

It's really odd that the rears of an SC would show accelerated wear compared to the fronts.

Same pad f/r?
fronts are working nominally?

I agree with Bill. I could understand it if it was a Carrera with a proportioning valve, because this could occur if you were not really on the brakes hard enough. But not in an SC? You may have something wrong with the fronts. How old are your brake hoses? Did both of your fronts wear the same? Something is definitely not right. Mine always wears out the fronts first.

Or maybe the rear pistons are not retracting completely and the brake pads are dragging a bit?

When were the calipers last serviced?

What kind of pads are you using, just out of curiosity?

I'm such a dope. It just occurred to me that I have two different type pads in the car. The fronts are Mintex (from Pelican), and the rears are ????. I had the calipers rebuilt by John at Goldline in Seattle over the winter, and I left the rear pads in that he installed...silly me. They are stock SC calipers, with new (in March) stock, non-drilled rotors. All new SS lines in the car, ATE blue fluid. They worked really well at the track, just wore the rears real fast. No fade.

My braking is best described as late...fastest way to the corner. I ascribe to my former employers theory; you want a car that accelerates and decelerates violently.

I'll get the rear pads out tomorrow and see if I can ID them.

Did I mention I'm such a dope?
Here's what was in the rears, I just changed them to the Mintex, same as the fronts.

Anyone know what they are?
