Carrera Starter Solenoid

I'm having a heat soak starting condition on my 84 Carrera. I'm looking for a starter solenoid but I'm not having much luck. I've checked our host, Google, search function, etc. but nobody wants to sell just the solenoid.

I know they are compatible with some Volkswagen solenoids, but I can't find which model. Can anyone help me out?

Grab a phone book and look up Electric Motor Rebuilders and the like. There are industrial shops that repair and sell parts for a wide variety of electric motors. To them, yours is a very common motor, and their parts catalogues include both Bosch and aftermarket solenoids. When I needed one, I found the Bosch to be cheaper than the aftermarket ones. I think it was about $30.

Oh, one more thing. Clean all terminals now. Battery terminal, all terminals at the starter, and the ground strap between the tranny and chassis. And last but not least, clean the 12-pin connectors in the engine compartment. Especially the one at the engine compartment fuse panel, and pay particular attention to the pin at the far end that handles the yellow starter wire. Use Warren's method, which involves vinegar, and perhaps flare the pins just slightly with a razor blade. Trust me. That connection was the big problem when I had starter trouble.

Thanks for the advice gentleman. All terminals were cleaned when I had the engine out over the winter but I'll check them again.
