intercoolers hanging out of ducktails....

Not something you see every day, i must admit, but does anyone have a picture of any 911's with intercoolers poking out of an RS ducktail? its very very tight to get an intercooler on the engine without it fouling the duck and as a result, i may be forced to just chop ducktail away until it fits over the intercooler. i dont want to have to start running two smaller intercoolers in the arches, that just sounds like loads of grief, and i kind of like the idea of having this bit of intercooler poking out too! so any pics would be very helpful

thanks for the shots. im thinking that with some ever so gentle mods to the profile of the ducktail, you should be able to get a pretty big intercooler under there. any more pics?

to put on a larger intercooler would require some major rework of the top deck and the grill area. Visualize raising the rear most portion of the grill about 3 -3.5 inches- keeping the forward section at its present posiition. Raise the horizontal deck portion of the tail to be in line with the grille (the bottom of the scoop). Next draw a line from the mid line of the duck tail sides forward down angle to intersect the raised rear portion of the grill. By doing so you will maintain a correct aesthetic and proportion to the "duck" It certainly will not be stock looking, but it will have a nice "feel" to it with out being akward

How effective is the intercooler with such little venting compared to the turbo tail?

What's the point of fitting duck tail on turbocharged car apart from questionable aesthetic gain?

Duck tail will force you to use smaller intercooler tucked furhter into engine compartment. (= less airlfow thus lower power). It will also provide less downforce thus more rear axle lift at high speeds.

I would say it is all for aesthetic gain!
The RSR in my opinion is way better looking with a dcuktail than with a whale tail or iroc tail.
This is all part of the retro move at the mo..
Lots of people prefer ducktails over Carrera tails and unless you are regularly going over 110-120 MPH then there is little difference in reduced lift in my opinion.

i think after looking at all the options i still kind of prefer the idea of just removing whats in the way and seeing the intercooler. only one way to find out i suppose!

I've been toying with the same idea for some time Andy.
What I may do is simply cut a hole in the duck that tightly fits the intercooler that will stick up out of it. The intercooler is painted black so it should "blend" better than aluminum. The rear of the car will have less downforce but also less weight. My current wing is very heavy.
Please post pictures if you do this.

Any pics of this whole car, Dave? I know the paint scheme but haven't ever seen it on a 911
