Conv. of 72 2.4 to 2.2 p/c's
I have just purchased a 72 911 T Targa. The engine was gone through top to bottom 3000 miles ago and the p/c's were changed to 2.2's. Can you tell me why? I understand this is a common change, but I don't know why.

Increases compression.

2.4 to 2.2
Do you know what this typically does to horsepower? IT's a 72 T w/ MFI.

It depends on whhich 2.2 pistons were installed. They could be T or E. Assuming E, a guess would be 5 HP. S would result in a compression ratio too high for pump gas and single plug ignition. Hopefully, the engine builder set the compression ratio at about 9.8:1. this would be done by piston choice and deck height adjustment. High compression is more significant for torque production than HP.
