Noob question

I've been dreaming of a 911 since I was a kid and I'm expecting to get one by next spring I've been reading through all posts gathering info so I can decide which year is best for me. I have a question that I can't find an answer for, though. What is the thing circled in red in the following picture?

I see you're close to Indy. Be sure to check out Euro Motorworks in Carmel. They always have many nice classic 911's and are very trustworthy. Good luck.

Yeah, I've been there. We looked at an M coupe for my wife but she didn't want it because it was black. I told her it doesn't matter what color it is, it's a M coupe with low miles and a good price. She doesn't get it, she just likes the way it looks and wants blue. If I wasn't set on a 911 I would have bought it. Thanks for the heads up on there honesty, though. I was wondering about their reputation.

Welcome to the Forum.

It would be productive to go to as many PCA (and Gruppe B) events as you can. Talk to everyone and look at all the cars. There is a lot of activity in and around Indianapolis.

Start doing your own mental PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) every time you look at a 911. Write out your own PPI instructions. Some searching on Pelican will get you most of the information.

Keep asking questions on the Forum.

The two general admonitions are: Buy the newest, best that you can afford. Don’t spend all your money; save for the unexpected.

Good luck on your quest.

Best,
Grady
