How many have experienced cutting out or missing in there sc??
I have fought this for a while now and just wanted to enter this so all would know for future. I replaced all my ignition components except the dizzy. The dizzy was taken apart and cleaned and replaced the vacum advance and signal wire. The car still did not run right. Then finally Took the dizzy out and had that tested and found out that the mechanical advance advanced to quickly. We corrected that and now it follows all the curve charts specs. I hope that you try this before buying new or start anywhere else.

Nope, the only miss I had on my SC went away with new plug wires.
If we do come us with someone who can go through 911 distributors and really know what they are doing I may be interested, especially if they can custom curve as in remove 5 degrees of total mechanical advance for boost reasons. |

Removing total advance of mechanical advance is pretty easy. And yes we have purchased a machine to do this with. It is a sun dizzy tester and the gal doing this is really sharp

I'm still not convinced, Ben. Respectfully. I mean, you've done a WHALE of a job identifying the advance curve problem and chasing down other possibilities. But five degrees of ignition timing, in my experience, will not create what I would call a "miss." It might detonate, or lack power, but a "miss" in my experience is where an ignition system fails to fire for a moment.
But hey, I'm always learning new stuff. Maybe I'm "miss"ing something.

Fair enough But keep in mind the whole ignition system including wires was removed from the car and tested and the timing was incorrect. The fuel system has been completly checked and cam timing as well. Compression checks are 165 cold across the board with 0 deveation so the timing in this particular car has been the greates issue. For a while I was concerned that the pulley marks were incorrect but that has since been put to rest. You have to look at it this way. If 5 degrees to advance mechanically and then 4 degrees with the vacum look out. My major issue was in the 2000-3000 range .. What is your thoughts as to where the problem really was

clean the either 12 or 14 pronged plug on the left back side of the bay .. and it may solve the issue....

Ben;
Does this mean that your miss has vanished in the 2000 - 3000 RPM range? No more stumbling ?

But if your engine cannot do this without a miss then you haven't really solved the problem.
![]() All joking aside, the inability of an ignition system to pass this test could leave you dead in your tracks the next time a Katrina or Rita comes knocking. Cheers, Joe Last edited by stlrj; 09-24-2005 at 06:26 AM.. |
