blank for clock hole?

Who sells a blank for the clock hole to accept a 2 1/16" gauge? Or, any suggested methods to install a standard gauge in that hole (cleanly)?

I see Pelican has a VDO adapter for a 914 on their site. Last time I checked it doesn't fit.

Thanks,
Sherwood

I replaced my clock with a voltmeter (Autometer) and believe it or not I fabricated an insert for the gauge from a old black plastic DVD case!

I used a compass to scribe 2 different diameter circles, and then cut to size. Fit perfect using the factory rubber surround, and looks almost original. I'm at work right now so I don't have a pic.

Priorities Kirk. Get up, go home, take the pic. It's just about quitin' time isn''t it? Seriously though, I'd like to see what you've done. My clock hasn't worked since I bought the car 8 years ago.

eh.

Jasper,

Still at the office.............but killing ALOT of time on here today.

I'll take a photo when I get home. My clock quit a year ago, and I like having a voltmeter in the car to keep an eye on the charging.

Kirk

p.s. I also replaced my 85 mph speedo with a 300 km/h 964 speedo. Works great (had to custom fit the wiring) and i can actually SEE IT at night!

The car lost about 200,000 km off the odometer with the swap too!

MS Road and Race has bend over pricing....my opinion.

As to a clock delete....put a combo voltmeter and CHT in there. Or a BIG red over rev or oil warning light.

I'm looking for an off-the-shelf gauge blank, preferably with a cutout for a typical aftermarket 2 1/16" guage - something that has a similar 911 bezel-look.

I thought this was an existing product.

Thanks guys.

MS Road and Race and Smart Racing have the gauge blanks/plugs. Don't know if they're the same but they're $50 and $80 respectively.

Here are Kirks pictures. I'm still not clear on how the piece he cut from the DVD case is seated square in the rubber guage seal though. Perhaps Kirk will elaborate?

Jasper,

If I remember correctly I cut the outside diameter of the blank to match the size of the clock housing rear. Then I scribed a smaller hole to fit the voltmeter. I put the gauge into the blank and then put the rubber surround from the clock around the blank. Inserted into the dash. I think the secret is to have close tolerances, and nothing will move and it will sit square.

I made a clock delete by combining my old clock and a coffee coaster. I disassembled the clock and removed the glass and substituted it with a black plastic coaster that had a similar grain to the RS clock deletes. I like it because it retains the look of the gauges across the dashface with the bezels plus it was FREE - these cars should not be expensive to own!
