Porsche Crest Calling all SOCG!

Well guys, I have completed my move (finally) so now I have to do some maintenace on the 911, I was wondering if any of you might have experience with valve adjustments on a 3.2 motor?

I would like to do this my self but at the same time it would be great if I could have a second pair of experienced eyes to guide me along.

Yes, there will be plenty to eat and drink for the volunteers.

On the menu will be

Ribeye steak or 1/2 Lbs Burgers
Merlot or Beer

When and where?
Or more importantly, are you going to be able to schedule it so that it doesn't conflict with the dark troopers or the canyon hills express soccer games?

I like beer.
I also gots a feeler guage with xtra blades and a dial indicator that works great on the exhaust valves. Kinda hard to use it on the intake, not mucho room in there.
If we get enough volunteers we can just do an engine drop

Sammy - I was thinking this weekend would be great, (Saturday early in the morning) I live in Corona now, however it is the first exit going east on 91 into Riverside County (AKA- Green River road) I can pick up all the parts needed (gaskets) from Andial and I will be buying a real floor Jack this friday.

What else do I need?

Not to worry, we rented out my old appartment to old friends so I'll still make my sunset trips down PCH from time to time.

Oil.
You will have to drain the oil unless you jack one side at a time up real high.
If your oil is new we can do that, otherwise you should drain it and replace it.

Green river? i dunno, that's a long drive. Prolly at least 15 minutes if traffic is heavy.

I'm going to check the soccer schedule and see when I can make it.
I think I have valve cover gaskets, sice I went to the silicone ones I haven't had to replace any.

Well - I am sure I need to do an oil change anyhow (it was part of the plan)

Where about do you live?

MIght as well change out the plugs, air and fuel filters while you're at it.

Torque wrench capable of a minimum of 6 ft/lbs.

How are your belts and brake pads?

I change out all my fuses at least once a year or so.

Torque down those Manifold bolts...18 ft/lbs...8mm hex socket.

have fun

- if the min. is 6 then it will not be very accurate there... I just go by feel.

I've got to work a trip that day, otherwise I'd love to come on by and help out. Sorry about that.

Take care.

Hey Welcome to the IE! I'm just down in Murrieta. Glad to help, but this weekend is out for me too. An evening or next weekend maybe? And do plugs, air and fuel filter altogether.

Hey Jeep, I live a just block off the 91 at Gypsum. Feel free to call if you need tools etc. I wont be able to make it over for the valve adjust, but I will be around most of the weekend if you need torque wrenches, anything.. If so, pm or email me and stop by

"Capable of torquing to 6 ft/lbs...."

- not my point -- A torque wrench will show maximum in accuracy at either extreme of its range. You should use it in the middle of its range.

But... the valve cover nuts are not critical as to torque - just do them by feel and save yourself $200+ for another torque wrench. Be sure not to snap them off with an "iron wrist."
