Rotation is clockwise. Put a timing light (induction) on one of the plug wires and see if there is spark to the plugs. If not check the points with a dwell meter to see if there opening.
Also, if you change plug wires it's a good idea to change one wire at a time and place it on the cap at the same hole as the one you took off to prevent this from happening.

well the wires look right for cw rotation. But I can't see where the other ends are. Is #1 on the rear left? if it is and all the others are correct, check for spark, try to hook the coil wire up first. Also, check that the dissy is indexed correctly. With the engine at TDC, the dissy rotor should be pointing to the mark on the housing. if not you can re index it or move the wires around to the corrosponding plug wire and continue around normaly (162435).

By flat end do you mean the back side of the rotor (the side without the conductor)? if so, it's 180˚ out. you can re-wire or remove the dissy and re set it, your choice. But note it somewhere so the next owner is advised or it jogs your memery for the next wire change.

In your picture the coil wire is not hooked up to the middle of the cap.

whereever the rotor is pointing to (as to cap location) is the new #1. looks like #4 to me. And double check that you have TDC on the compression stroke.

If it were me Id take it all off. Make sure Im at TDC and Id redo it. Its worth the hassle to not have to think about it later.

true brad, but can you see the can of worms you open when asking someone that can't change plug wires to pull the distributor? ( no offence 69911S, just trying to keep it simple, we will work on fixing the dissy after it's running). Lots of posts of people cracking and busting there dissy just trying to reset it. Just one step at a time.

I agree James. Why does he need to remove his distributor? Cant he just get it at TDC, make sure rotor is facing the correct notch, and reinstall his plug wires, as per the Bentley and help you are giving him? If all he did was a wire change, seems like it should be a simple fix... did i miss something else he did ?

well the dissy reported is 180˚ out (I beleave he does not have it at the correct TDC, waiting for his reply) so if he did what Bentley said, there way off. "Fixing it" by customizing the cap is one way of doing it but not the right way. Small steps forward...
It's not like putting PMO ITB's on there!! (like you did stellerly!) More like engine 101. And that's ok, after all, it's not a small block Chevy!!!
And, now thinking about it, a 69 is old enough to have the dissy at the wrong index, just sayin...

he must have removed the Dissy, otherwise there is no way it could be 180 out. right? I just assumed by 180 degrees out that he just had the wires installed 180 degrees wrong and that the dissy itself isnt really 180 degrees out. That would just require moving the wires 180 degrees to the correct and proper position. Sorry I missed that. I am abit impatient at times.

Great Job. There are experts on here like James who have been there and done the carb issue... they will be able to help you with your popping. May want to do a search and if your questions arent answered post a new thread. Welcome!
In time, I would get the Dizzy to TDC and Id fix that 180 degrees off problem.
