shift knob thread measurement??

Does anyone know the measurement on the shift knob thread? I found a nice alloy knob but the thread opening measurement is 12mm. Will this fit? Thanks you guys.

I think the 1987 and later 911's have threaded shift rods. The earlier ones are wedged on with a crush ring.

Do you mean making the thread larger?
