identification help, 915, wheres my number??

I was trying to sell this trans but in the meantime could not figure out what it was, so now it looks like a keeper, may use it for something i'm sure, but what R/P is it,. the numbers on the bottom don't look like there ever were any. I don't have any books(hopefully someone will) that list all the part number and cross reference. I know its a five speed 915 , Was in the 72 i've been parting, so i thought 915/02 or 915/12 ? two books I ahve list both those numbers. I did a little claning of the surface with the hopes that the number would appear. Is it possible to tell from the other 915 301 number what it is. and why are the value of 915's dropping, i have paid $100o in the past for 915's with unknown history and they seem to be going around here for 650 +_. Any way any help in identifying would be greatly appreciated, i may have to send it to the CSI lab for metal anaylsis.
LOL

Well, I see remnants of numbers on that lowest rib ... and significant scrape damage!

I believe most '72s in the USA came with the 5-speed 915/02.

You can use a T-handle on the shift rod to see if it goes into 6 gear positions to confirm a 5-speed.

Are you selling on Pelican or eBay?

it looks like scrape damage but its not, scrapes would begin at an edge and gouge or drag, looks to me like casting flaws or corrosion, i lightly sanded with 180 to remove grime but took of absolutely no metal. 915/02 is what i think to. is there anyway to be sure. Anyone anyone Was for sale on evil bay, seeing what they were going for here that seemed like the only logical place to get any cash for it, But if it's not selling i was thinking of redoing it and throwing a lsd in it. I have a feeling i'm going to toast my other 915 soon.

I would simply take it apart and photo everything. A prospective buyer will assume the worst condition unless you show him otherwise. While apart, clean and take the main casting only to the lab for inspection.

I agree, it probably is a 915/02 if 5-speed. That would have S/N ranges of: 7320001 - 7329999 or 7720001 – 7720658.

Best,
Grady
