As far as I have heard the Borg Warner set up will benefit more from a synthetic oil - at least as compared to the 915.

As with most trannies there is a goesinta plug and a goesouta plug.
Get under your car and look Dean

On the side (driver/left IIRC) of the tranny is a Hex nut for refilling and one on the bottom to drain. Make SURE you can get the refill nut out BEFORE you drain the oil from the tranny. You don't want to empty the tranny and find out you can't refill it. I used one of those pumps to get the new fluid in the tranny.
Probably should pick up Wayne's book and Bentley manual as well...both VERY useful. Wayne's book(s) is/are great reading whether you are doing anything or not and it's an excellent education on 911s.

There's a 10mm allen key plug in the bottom of your tranny, and another one about halfway up on the driver's side of the tranny as mentioned above. Don't use a standard allen key, get a key tool that attaches to your ratchet wrench. I just did mine with a home-brew non-pump method:
Pick up 3 quarts of Mobil 1 75w-90 oil at your local Auto Zone in the quart containers with the pointed caps. Get some tubing there that fits on the end. Remove the driver's side rear wheel and run the tubing into the upper plug hole on the tranny (don't forget to replace the drain plug). Squeeze the oil into the trans until it starts dripping out of the upper plug hole (the tranny is full at the bottom of the plug. Mine took almost the entire three quarts. This stuff is really stinky if it gets on your hands...use rubber gloves. Last edited by jkarolyi; 10-21-2005 at 12:56 PM.. |

Don't feel bad, I was sorta thinking the same g'damn thing. I have Waynes book but just havent looked it up yet. I will be starting to do my own oil changes next week, I just ordered a bunch of filters and such from Pelican. I guess i will have to look up how often to change the G50 tranny fluid now. --Bill

Wayne's book focuses on the 915 tranny and doesn't detail the G50 change procedure. Pretty similar process though. I've hear 100K miles is fine for tranny fluid, maybe even more for synthetic.

I would guess that if the PO had the clutch replaced that the fluid was done at that time?

It made a world of difference on my 57000 mile tranny - got to believe that it's better to do it at the 30k mile interval
