				glovebox door

Can someone give me a quick tutorial on how to remove a glovebox door/lid on on early car? I don't want to ruin anything by prying etc.Thanks.

Lots of little Phillips screws hold the door in place IIRC. I do know NO PRYING is needed. Just some vigorous pushing. You won't hurt it though; the piece is quite strong (and heavy, considering).

You have to take off the knee pad which will allow you access to remove the inner pocket which will allow access to the screws to remove door (if my memory is corect after the abuse it went thru during the early 70's. And mid and late 70's and early 80's. I think).

yeah, you have to take off the knee board. its held on by two nuts, 8mm wrench i think. The center one is about 4" from the ash tray end. the other is pretty close to the door end. The center one is a pain to get at. you pretty much have to lie down, and work by feel. Once you get the knee board off, you can easily get at the philips screws that hold on the door. hope that helps, jason

My glovebox has a broken key in it so is this method suitable for getting my glovebox open as well? If not what is the best way of getting it open so that I can the lock replaced or repaired?

I drilled a 3/4" hole in the bottom of the box & used a long screwdriver to release the catch at the top of the frame. replacement mouse-hair box was $15. btw the wt of the box alone is less than 4oz. Bill K
