to restore or to part?

I just bought a 911E targa1973 it is a great chassis virtually no rust. it has been inside a garage for the last 13 years the original engine is in boxes ( the owner took it apart and never put it back again) it is all there I did an inventory of parts and it also has a complete long block to go with it. It has MFI and the engine numbers match.

The good
The interior is in great shape
It has sports seats and a RS steering wheel (380mm)
it has a pair of H1's
it has a pair of Cibies/Marchall hood mounted lights
the gas tank is Plastic
it has a Steel S spoiler
It has a respray in the original color (I checked the plate)

The bad
it has a carrera tail (fiber glass)
it has a semi update conversion of the rear
it has a couple of rust areas on the driver side rocker the size of a quarter.
it has cookie cutters instead of Fuchs

My question is fix it or part it?

I say restore it. But I always (almost) say that. The early long hoods are going to do nothing but get rarer and rarer. You can make a leisurely project out of it, if you like that sort of hobby thing. I've been working on my 911E now for a year and a half and have enjoyed it. Although now I'm starting to get really itchy to drive it.

Restore it, no doubt.
You have all the parts (or almost all of them)
And as you said, very little rust.
Restore and do your part in keeping the legend alive, you'll feel good about it afterwards

I would find out if any of those accessories are original to the car. If so, I would definitely restore. If not, sell them and restore the car with the money from the parts. I wouldn't consider the cookie cutters a bad thing. That particular year model was the introduction of those wheels; it was the only car these wheels were standard on in 73.

Still on the fence? What color is it?

I'm putting my 73E back together and it is an absolute blast to drive.

I rarely chime on the opinion poll type posts, but this is a no-brainer. If you have the time and interest to restore it (which is a big "IF"), then the car itself is certainly worthy of your attention. Good luck.

Well worth saving. If it had lots of rust around the fuel tank or front suspension, or around the torsion bars in the rear, then it can be a lot of work, but what you have described here is not that big of a deal.

Keep it or sell it on the forum and make someone happy!

Restore that E. They are more rare than S's and as much fun.

That sounds like a fantastic and rewarding project car that is already halfway done. Even if you just put the motor back together and got the car in running condition it would be worth double than its current state.

The rear can always be rebackdated as early decklids and bumpers are easily available and even if the paint does not come off the targa bar, there are used bars for sale regularly.

Parting out is a long process and you never get the money you think things are worth (especially in wintertime) even though I really could use some nice early interior and engine parts.....

BTW, PICS PLEASE!!!!

It seems like there are no issues with the car. So rather than a restoration, all you'd need to do is clean and assemble it. I'd think about it as a fun jigsaw puzzle, take my time, apply lots of beer, and have a blast.
