Supporting Pelican Parts

Many continue to not support Pelican Parts by either buying directing
from their vendors, naming other sources, e.g. speedo & tach rebuilding
which Pelican Parts has, or posting direct links to the other sources.

Although this is a publlic forum, many forget that this forum operates
because of Pelican Parts revenues, as there is no membership fees
associated with using the forum. To post links to sources which compete
with Pleican Parts or even mention them should be considered a disregard
for Pelican Parts.

Some just don't get it!

I've been doing my part ever since I bought an '83 SC in June. 3 of 4 times I need something I've ordered from Pelican. Very happy with choice and service.

Many times I have paid more for a Part from Pelican than from other sources, and from California it is a long freight ride to Alabama. This forum is worth that much to me.

There are times though when you don't realize Pelican carries an item. When that happens someone (from Pelican) should list a direct link to the part for all to see.

I agree with supporting Pelican; my latest order was ~$800.00.
There are occasions when another source is closer, or more practical.
But generally, I believe that Pelican is number one because of the discussion boards that save DIY-people so much money.

Along with supproting them we should also all try to get along so that this board keeps up a good rep with newbies. I have seen recent threads where people just start spouting off to new members and you probably will not see the new members back and pelican probably won't hear from them either. Its easy to say buy from pelican but it is also important to respect the board as a whole

I see much more of this on the 944 forum. People asking "Where is the best price for....."

I always suggest Pelican. Everything I buy for the Porsches is either bought locally or from here at Pelican.

It gets amusing when the gripes about poor customer service show up. "I saved a nickel from this place over Pelican, and now they screwed everything up. What should I do?"

Loren: If someone called you and said, "hey Loren, I saw your post on the Pelican board and I need a rebuilt DME box for my car," would you sell it to him directly, or refer him back to Pelican?

Ben: In principle, I agree with Loren. Wayne provides this board to us free, and we should support PP as much as possible. PP is always my first choice, and as long as they can match other's prices (or even come close), they're going to get my business every time.

What Loren isn't saying is that he's a PP vendor. So, if someone orders a rebuilt DME box from PP, likely it's going to come from Loren. Thus, if we support PP, we're supporting Loren, too. I'm just trying to find out if Loren's willing to give up direct business and profit in exchange for us supporting PP. I guess I'm asking whether he's willing to put principle ahead of profit.

On the other hand, if Loren sells to Pelican at wholesale, but charges us the same price as Pelican charges us for the same product, then I agree with Loren -- we should buy from Pelican. Wayne is entitled to the profit, and if the price is the same (or even close) to us, the consumer, we should support Wayne and Pelican.

Yes I know and I think that sometimes is hard for a vendor but it has to be done in order to keep "good will" among the community.. I have been there done that!

I think Wayne can take up for himself without someone else jumping in to do it for him.

Just my .02

And he does by regularly remiding us that we should support Pelican. He's absolutely justified in his request/demand. This board is not free to him, and he's entitled to reap the benefits from it. The board is a great resource for us, and it's a great marketing tool for him. Our part is to buy from Pelican, and we should do so whenever possible.

agreed. We(our business M&K) started as a manufacturer/retailer. And has quickly changed to manufacturer suppling to pelican and others and with that we have changed how business gets done. 99% of sales goes through pelican and the likes. I buy from my distributors on a regular basis and even if it weren't part of business It is important to support this forum.. .. If we did not where would we go. But the statement of wayne posting this that is right on that is for him to do not any of us. That is not for vendors to do.

BGCarrera32 got it right.

I'm still very interested to see Loren's response.

Well Loren, if you were so interested in people supporting Pelican, maybe you shouldn't negate the value of other vendors' products. Such as "chips"? If there weren't negative posts about a chip's value, maybe more would buy them thur Pelican?

I buy only from the Pelican, unless it simply isn't available from them (like my turbo set up). Wayne et al have done more than anyone else (even Porsche) to make our cars so much fun and such a great investment. Where would we be without the service he provides, his advice, and this great web site?

Hail to the Chief!

Placed my 2nd order with them last week... I'm a new member to the forum... I can't believe I haven't found this sooner... I've been a Porsche fanatic for 8+ years.

I just proved to my boss last week the value of being a Pelcanite. Wayne saved our rear end when the dealer left it out in the breeze. We almost lost a new customer and worse than that we almost had a potential bad mouth in the town. Pelican came through within 24hrs and I am on the other side of the country!
I deal with alot of suppliers and Pelican has proven to be an asset to me. My boss was so impressed that any Porsche parts we need from now on will come from here. I agree that the mods and Wayne can take care of themselves but it is just plain rude and unacceptable to pedel someone elses wares on this forum. JMO
