Looks like Cf, hence lightweight.
Huge opening so not much resistance sucking air in. Looks nice.

Strictly for sunny days. This cover is used by autocrossers and DE drivers, supposedly to get more air into the air box. But is it vulnerable to sucking in rain as well.
Note that the stock cover has a venturi-shaped nozzle, which speeds up the air as the flapper valve opens (which by the way has a venturi profile as well, check out the drawings). Thus, it seems that there will be no gain to using this kind of "open" cover. Perhaps it's more for show than for go. Whenever I've expereiments, I just take off my stock cover, and run with the straps holding dfown the air cleaner. Don't need no carbon'fiber wannabe to do an experiment. Anyone have any test results proving this works?

Looks like a another "it must be better thing" cuz somebody with big brains figured it out.
A very powerful placebo. |

Looks nice but IMO it is strictly a cosmetic upgrade.
I think it was Bruce Anderson who wrote that he found from dyno testing taking the cover completely off netted zero increase, but removing the filter element gained two hp. Onlist problem is, who wants to run a CIS emgine with no filter? not me. I like the clean look and the extra intake noise at full throttle might be desirable to some, but don't expect any performance increase from it. |

Hi Todd,
I'm going to get a nasty reputation if I keep asking the question about testing results, but here goes anyway: To give yourself the benefit of a doubt, take off your stock "snorkel" cover, leave the air cleaner in place, secure it with the straps, and then go out on a test run, and see if it makes a difference. Try second gear acceleration runs, try third gear acceleration runs, and then make sure you're not kidding youself, try it on a dyno. Note that this method involves no cost to you, unless you try the dyno. I (and a lot of other people) think that you will see or feel or measure no difference. Yes, you will HEAR a difference (louder induction noise), but the dyno and your seat of parts will not "see" a difference.
