break upgrade help

i need advise on 911SC 1980 break upgrade
i have 2 sets of breaks...
1st set is off Boxster S calipers
2nd set is off Boxster calipers

i have 16" wheels... which one will fit the wheel.. and also, what other parts do i need.. if i m not mistaking i need to get the bracket for the calipers... does anyone know where i can get them or who has them...

please let me know

Hi:

The only Boxster brake upgrade package out there is the Brembo one that uses rear Boxster calipers on Carrera rotors along with Carrera rear calipers and rotors.

Brembo doesn't offer the caliper adapters separately so you'll need to fabricate those yourself. You'll use normal Boxster calipers, not the 'S' ones to fit inside your 16" Fuchs.

Henry 959 I just happen to have a set of such brackets that I know will fit an 84-89 Carrera. They are CNC'd out of some billet stock and made by MetalArt(a defunct machine shop). New. Anodized and fit the calipers you are talking about. They fit nicely under a 16" Fuchs. PS I can't find the bolts, they are here someplace.. Glenn

If you want to upgrade your break, use a heavier sledge hammer. An 8lb with a 2.5 foot haft will break your Porsche really good.

Henry. I'm sure these brackets will also fit on the SC, front and rear. I'll try and get a photo tomorrow for you. I want $120. + shipping or $140. + shipping if you want the bolts too(I'll have to secure some, as I cannot find the ones I had.-you need top quality grade 8 fasteners for this application) These are very nice pieces. Can you post the measurements of these brackets? Width, lenght, hole placements etc.? There are many that would like to make their own brackets and have the means. They just need measurements.

Need drawings like the ones in this thread.

JP, unfortunately I lost the cocktail napkin I sketched these out on.. I will give it a try again, maybe I'll get to it tomorrow. Some of the dimensions are critical. I think they need to be metric, what do you think? Or do you want it in english? Do you have a machine shop that you can talk to? This stuff looks easy, but.. Glenn

Seems like a lot of fuss for not much improvement

You could bolt on a set of Carrera calipers and get 99% of the improvement

It is true, there is little real effect on the braking by adding the Boxster calipers, especially since the rotors and master cylinder are the original size, but nevertheless it is a popular upgrade. However, in some cases the original calipers need replacing because of age and condition, and some see the Boxster parts as more visually appealing than the old Carrera calipers.

Thank you, for the effort. I expect the mounting points will be the same for the boxster, boxster S and 996 calipers. The latter two are capable of holding larger rotors. The calipers themselves would be taller making up for the increased diameter of the rotor. I think the986S and 996 calipers and rotors are a bolt on for the 986.
