Mike, that is actually what this thread is for.

Coil was originally black with a brown top, larger diameter than what you have there.

while were are on the subject

aluminum console board is semigloss black with silver cad plated clips

That is a non-original ballast resistor, no longer needed with the "blue" coil because the coil is designed to run all the time at +12v. The earlier coils were basically +9V for normal operation and the ballast resistor relay cut the resistor out of the circuit to increase the voltage (which was lower anyway because the starter was cranking).

I don't recognize the fuel pump, the base is a hardi but the pump is different.

There should be a piece of tape around the base of the voltage regulator.

About an afternoon's work if you wanted to put it back to "concours" but if it runs fine, drive the hell out of it!

Thanks for posting.

Well would you believe it, there was I, being all smug about my original, concouse winning, same as the day it rolled off the production line ignition system and I`ve got a bl**dy MG fuel pump lurking away in there.

I see the Hardi pumps come up fore sale every now and then, can I presume the same pump was used for Ts Ls and Ss

Mike.

John, are there supposed to be washers on both ends of the rubber standoffs under the fuel pump or are the ends of the rubber pieces flared? I can't tell from the picture. The rubber standoffs on my car don't have washers or flared ends and the fuel pump is pretty bouncy.

Thanks for this thread!

Never mind, I figured it out. The washers are embedded in the standoffs and no matter much you dare tighten the pump down, it's still bouncy.

Newbie needs help

Hi All,

I want to clean up my engine's electrical system and replace some worn out components as well.
My ignition system looks similar to "Mycar's" (post #40) but mine looks like its missing some additional parts.
Attached is a picture of my current setup, if anyone can provide any insight as to what I'm missing and what the numbered components are (especially part #5, what should it be connected to?) in the diagram, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

First of all I assume your car is a 68 from the ballast resistor and the three point mount for a hardi fuel pump.

1- noise filter capacitor to meet VDE radio noise rules
2- ballast resistor, 68 type
3- ballast resistor relay
4- Bosch "blue" coil- early type aftermarket coil form 1970s.
5- plug connector for voltage regulator

Missing- Hardi Fuel Pump on the vibration isolation studs
Missing- voltage regulator
Missing- wiring for ballast resistor
Missing- center fin for terminal block (under the coil center electrode)

Hope this helps

Is it working like that .

Hello All,

I just want to know if we can remove the starting relay and the ballast resostor like that ?
This should be simpler as possible like that.
