993 Rear Calipers on 930 Rotors
Hi,
Have read the many threads on this conversion but would appreciate some clarification on the most effective 'mechanical method' to evenly open up the caliper throat to accommodate the 28mm 930 rotor as well as grind down the pads? I am also a little unsure about the projecting screws that hold down the pad retainers or are these both removed? Hopefully this process can be achieved without the loss of any fingers? Thx Martin Gibson |

Kevin did a nice writeup here
the last pic on p1 is one I posted quite a while ago of one of my rear calipers. Yours needs to look like that. Pad shaving depends on the pad manufacturer, some need more than others.

Like Bill said, pad shaving is going to depend on the pad you choose.
But for simple figuring............... The factory 993 rear brakes use a 24mm thk. rotor. The 930 rotor we're choosing to use is 28mm thk. So at minimum, you're going to have to shave 2mm from each pad. 2mm from outer pad + 2mm from inner pad= 4mm less pad thickness to account for the difference in rotor thicknesses. If you're asking what method to use? The consensus is to use a belt sander w/ 120 or 150 grit belt.
