Is one better than two? Car purchase decision quandry.

Hi guys, I'm currently in a quandry about what to do . . . .
I currently drive an 89 911 Speedster and I am contemplating the following options:

1. Keep the Speedster and purchase a 993 Carrera Coupe.
2. Sell the Speedster and purchase a new Cayman S.

What would you guys do????!!!!!

Thanks in advance!

Given that choice I would go with option 1.

Keep the triple black speedster and get a 993. Wait until the Caymans have been around for a few years and Porsche flushes out the development bugs. Wait until they start coming off lease and pick one up at that time if you've grown tired of the 993. The 993 shouldn't have lost much value and you can let somebody else take the depreciation hit on the Cayman. Of course, once you have the Speedster and 993, you'll have two air cooled classics - who needs a Cayman?

You could make this a poll- but I think that would just confirm what you've already heard- and I agree with- Option 1.

Cheers,

Paul.

When you go to two Porsches you'll definitely end up driving one less. I guess I don't see the point in the Speedster + 993 option. When would you drive the Speedster and when would you drive the 993?

The Cayman sounds awesome. Money aside it should out-perform both the 993 and the Speester. Will you miss the charm of an aircooled engine?

I don't think I'd worry so much about a 1st gen Cayman. I mean it's part Boxster, part 996. There shouldn't be major bugs to work out.

I like option "1" as well but how about option "3" keep the speedster, buy the 993 and lease the Cayman for 2-3 years and enjoy. As far as usage, the Cayman for daily driving until lease mileage is up, then use the 993 and keep the speedster for the connoseuir events or where you just really want to have some classic aircooled fun.

When would you drive the Speedster and when would you drive the 993?

Good points Anthony, but I love open air motoring. That's where the Speedster comes in handy. The 993 would be more of a daily driver, perfect for cruising over the Pali Highway, storm clouds be damned. I know i could simply get a Cabriolet with an automatic top (the speedster has more of an emergency, manual top), but I just love the roof lines of a 911/993 coupe.

Will you miss the charm of an aircooled engine?

Absolutely.

Wife: Is it practical to have 2 two seaters?

Absolutely Not. No man on their death bed ever said, "I should have been more practical."

I appreciate all the feedback guys. Happy Thanksgiving!

Looks like Type911 found the perfect answer to the highly controversial question, Coupe or Targa?
