Horn button not fitting in Momo wheel

has anyone had any difficulty getting the horn button to fit in a Momo steering wheel? The horn button came with the wheel and hub, it is not aftermarket or another producer. I have tried sig force and have the four flexible tabs in but cannot get it to seat properly. Still about a quarter inch space from the hub. Pretty silly situation, horn works and everything else fit fine but this is strange problem. The "Hammer" is going to come out soon. Help!

Don't go the hammer route. I put my MOMO on a year ago and I remember I had a fitment issue too until I realized I was missing a part. Maybe some others can chime in but be sure you have all the right pieces. It ultimately does snap in but it should be obvious if you are doing it right. Some pics might help get the old neurons fire in the right order again too.

Is it really a MOMO button? The ones that I've installed all fit just fine. You are installing it from the back of the wheel right?

I've had to modify the PORSCHE crest horn button (using the MOMO button) to make it fit, but I don't think that is your situ.

They are no longer produced due to brand protection

I've seen 'momo' porsche crest buttons on Ebay for around $45, IIRC

I just replaced the Porsche school bus wheel with a Momo comp and the origional Momo button fit right in. I also purchased a Porsche crest button to replace the Momo one and it fit with no problem. My wheel has a button ring that bolts on to the outside. Will try to post pic.

If you have the outer ring like I do the button goes between the wheel and the ring. I just wish I had black screws instead of those ss things.

The Momo wheel or hub should have come with a thin steel ring that fits between the back of the wheel and the hub. The horn button is pushed through the wheel and the ring. There is a brass colored wire that partially goes around the horn button. I bet that it has not cleared through the ring and that is causing your 1/4 inch gap.

I had to file the 4 tabs slightly from the Porsche crest horn button to fit the Momo Prototipo. The Momo horn button in the Prototipo just fitted fine. If I find the pictures I will post them.

I thought the horn button slipped into the wheel from the front after the wheel was attached to the hub but RickV's photo shows the horn button is actually behind the wheel and snapped into the thin silver ring that fits between the hub and the back of the steering wheel. I'm actually not with the car right now so it will have to wait until Monday before I go at it again. Probably safer that way anyway. Thanks for the suggestions, it's been very helpful.

It also depends of the steering wheel you have.
The Corsa has a ring like the one Rick is showing, the horn button is sandwiched between the ring and the wheel. On the Prototipo the horn button snaps in place and does not have a ring.

The Corsa and the Competition models are very similar in that they both have the ring and I think I have to go back and see if I can sandwich the button between the ring and the wheel as you have described. I am hoping that will be the solution.

Try "cold bluing" from a gun shop to darken the bright screws.

Sharpie felt marker. Not perfect, but looks better to me.

The 3 momo wheels I've owned all had rings that clamp the horn button. The button just lays in there on the wheel, no forcing anything.

Rick V - was thinking that your wheel looked a lot like mine (mine is a Momo Sport - smooth leather/CF ring/Porsche button) and then I noticed that your mileage was about the same as mine so I took a look and I'm at 113932 - one mile behind... I'll have to go for a drive tomorrow to try to get ahead

My wheel works great, but I agree w/you - my screws don't look perfect either. I haven't tried to source any new ones yet...

And the Porsche buttons are available - just call places on the phone and you'll find one - they just don't/can't advertise them. I think mine was $42...

Enclosed pictures of the Prototipo with the Corsa ring and the Momo horn button and a picture of the Prototipo without the ring and the Porsche crest horn button.
