Another roof rack

Here is my solution for bringing one spare 8" and 9" wheel to the track. Nothing fancy, just two Thule gutter mount racks with the tires on top held down with straps.

I took this at 9AM on 11/10 just before I started the 410 mile trip from NJ to Virginia, for a 3 day DE at VIR.

I then did 532 track and local miles, followed by the 410 mile trip home. Grand total 1352!

Speaking of that, I have a set of Thule racks and gutter mounts available for a 911 coupe. Comes with two bike trays and all the random fit kits I ever bought to put them on about 3 different cars (one a 911) so you'd need to have all of that to determine which you need.

Email me at jemcbride@earthlink.net I'll be out of town and away from the computer until Monday.

That's how I did mine (315's on top).

Did you experience any oil temp increase, due to the diverted air flow?

I had some temp increase in my 930...travelling ~ 180 miles round trip to Willow Springs Raceway.

Looks good Jim, what paddock is that?

I noticed no increase in oil temps but temps were in the 50's. Crosswinds were a little more noticeable but still not bad.

I used extra rubber fuel line to cushion the racks and preserve the paint.

Todd, it was a Schattenbaum region event at Shenandoah Circuit. I think you were there. I was running in white run group.

My rack produces about a 30 degree increase in cylinder head temps and a 20 degree increase in oil temps. Of course, any increase in load on the car is going to have some effect. A trailer would also increase the engine's workload.

I have thule racks. There is no metal touching the paint. It is all rubber and plastic. Only thing you can do is mess up and drop the tire or buckles from the straps on the roof. If you take it to the track, that should not be an issue though, compared to other little defects the paint may pick up.
