Successfully dropped the engine over my 4 day weekend. Check out my throwout bearing. I thought this was the cause of my "rattling metal can" noise, but upon inspection doesn't look horrible, maybe something else? The noise only happened when clutch was disengaged, i.e. in gear or neutral. Hopefully I'll know more after I get more taken apart. I'm picking up some hex key sockets today.
Also, I tore a small fuel hose that connects back by the throttle rod, near cylinder #3 (pic 2). Am I going to have to special order this puppy or what? (Sorry for blurry photo) Thanks for your help, many more questions to come I'm sure. -Matt ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Sounds like bearing noises; check the play on the release bearing and spin it fast. If it has many miles on it, replace it anyway.
How much play is in the disk to shaft-splines?

Play on bearing seems minimal, pretty tight, it does make quite a bit of noise when spun. Im going to replace that for sure. Depending on what I find I might just do a power clutch, but car only has 28k miles.
What do I shake to check play in the disk to shaft splines?

You would need to release the Pressure Plate from the flywheel to free the disc. Open the bolts on the plate 2 threads at a time going around until the plate is off. Make a punch mark on flywheel and plate for easy re-install. Stick the disc on the output shaft of the transmission splines and check for play. There should be very little. If it feels good, and the disc has enough lining left, re-use. Otherwise, get a new one. Grease the splines a little when reassembling so the disc can slide easy.
Also a little grease on the release bearing groove where the release fork sits. Ensure that the shaft for the fork is well lubed. I recommend that you get the Bentley repair manual for your 911; you'll love it; great explanations with pictures.

Thanks for the info. I think I will have to get that manual as it seems to be quite useful, and I will be placing quite the pelican order anyway. Will I need the clutch alignment tool if I punch the flywheel and plate?
Also, any info about that gas line would be nice, hopefully finding replacement parts for that won't be too tough?

Yes, you'll need the disc alignment tool, it's a short plastic shaft, and it's cheap. Order it along with other parts.
The punch mark is only to help putting the plate back on in the same position; I think it'll fit only one way, even without the punch mark. Don't know anything about the fuel line. Start a new thread.
