Any trick to seperating hub from rotor?
I'm taking it all apart. The struts are off the car.
I have removed the bolts that hold the rotor to the hub but I can't get the hub to seperate from the rotor. Any tricks? I want to avoid big hammer action- although I would rather hit the rotor as they are cheaper than hubs... Thanks, Ian |

lots of little hits with a plastic hammer, working round it as you go. and some heat perhaps..

I just drop the whole assembly from a height of 3 ft making sure the rotor hits the pavement first. The hub usually dislodge from the rotor when the impact shears the rusted together parts.

A steel hammer on the OD of the rotor will do it. Just tap it around and the rust will let go. The taps witht he hammer will break loose the rust scales will help your cooling too.

Dead blow hammer the large size, not the small size.

If you have an air hammer with a flat round attachment (not a chisel, punch or sheet metal chisel)- use on hub area working your way around while hitting with 5 second or so blasts- should eventually separate without damage to the rotor.

Just did mine the other night. Rubber mallet worked for me. I BBQ'd the hub to get the races out.
