911S Alloy caliper factory coating... what is it and can it be re-produced?
I have a couple sets of early 911 alloy calipers, I was going to rebuild a pair for a near concours period correct car. So I know about rebuilding them, that isn't too difficult but before I put them together I want to coat them with the factory original stuff.
Does anyone know what this coating is and how it can be re-produced? Thanks for any info allaircooled@yahoo.com

I believe that it is a cadmium coating on some versions and anodized on others, the purpose is corrosion resistance
anodized should look like this when done. These are NEW ![]() cad plated versions

Cool, anodized might look better, there is also a gold color coating, I was wondering what that coating was.
I am not sure if I have seen plain anodized silver looking calipers on cars but I would believe it would have been done. Is there such thing as yellow anodizing? Cadmium plating is for steel, I don't think it will work on aluminum.

Yes, you can have aluminum parts anodized in pretty much whatever color you want. Alodyning also produces a yellow color on aluminum. Do a Google search, it's used in the aircraft industry.
