Porsche VS Motorcycle Video

This is fun to watch. It is from the bikes prospective. Click on the first one on the page. R1 bike VS Porsche GT3.

Enjoy.

Spped is in km/h - but they were moving pretty good. That said, the bike should be able to more easily dust the GT3.

From what I saw, I'd venture a guess that they were together and the agreement was probably to keep the GT3 in the video. It looked to me that the bike and car were fairly evenly matched in the twisty sections but that the bike easily reeled in the car on almost all of the straights. The guy on the bike had to back way off a couple of times to keep the car in front, at least until the final long straightaway.

Awesome video though. It's been saved to my hard drive.

you are correct on what would happen in real life. in a tight cornered track the gt would probably outrun the bike. a track like this one the bike should have just left the car after a few straights. my current bike makes 167hp at the rear wheel and weighs 410lb. as you can see the power to weight ratio is a ton more the the gt. the bike that was shown probably makes around 135-140hp. and weighs 425lbs.

in the first video the bike would have left it. you are correct on the traction part but the first track had long swooping corners and long straights. the bike would have easily passed the car at any point. i am not defending bikes because i own one but i know due to lap times due to track days with both.

Motorcycle lap record on NS is 7:49:71 by Helmut Dähne in 1993 (Metzeler ME Z1). Last motorcycle race there was held in 1994 by the way.

GT3 can do "only" 7.54. But this is comparing a 90's racing bike to a stock Porsche on street tires.

I just sold an R1 a while back, pretty amazing machine. The new ones are up 25 or so horse over what I had, they are claiming in the 180 range. THis is play, on the straits the R1 is not using the meat of the power band. There are places where the bike would be faster, straights, and places the car would be faster,. But fun to watch for sure. Kevin

This should be a fairly easy decision without resorting to a whole lot of arguement:

Road Atlanta, September 2004. Superbikes:
°POLE POSITION – Mathew Mladin, 01:22.1, 111.423 mph (NEW TRACK RECORD) on 2.52 mile road course

2005 Petit Le Mans, September 2005. GT2 class Porsche 911.
Timo Bernhard won his third pole of the year in the No. 23 Alex Job Racing Porsche to a lap of 1:21.932 on the 2.54-mile north Georgia road course.

Score: Porsche - 1, Superbike - 0.

Road Atlanta is known as a "high speed" track, more in the vein of the west coast tracks like Willow Springs, as opposed to the tighter east coast tracks like Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohio. Given the straight line acceleration of a bike it should favor the bike as opposed to the better handling of the car. Yet the Porsche 911 was a second faster then the super-bike around a marginally longer version of the track.

Laguna Seca July 2005, Superbikes:
Mladin also broke the Laguna Seca lap record for AMA Superbikes with an ultra-fast lap time of 1:24.886.

In October 2005 at the same track:
Sascha Maassen in the P2 Porsche RS Spyder did a lap in 1:15.606 (106.563 MPH), Oliver Gavin in the GT1 Corvette did a lap in 1:21.908 and Roman Dumas in the GT2 pole sitting Alex Job Porsche 911 turned a lap in 1:25.406.

Score: Porsche - 2, Superbike - 1

Game set and match to the cars.

I seem to remember a comparison done a few years back from a show with either Niki Lauda or Jonathan Palmer where they compared an F1 car to an F1 bike. While the bike was faster off the line, the Grand Prix car won hands down when it came to lap time.

I seem to remember a comparison done a few years back from a show with either Niki Lauda or Jonathan Palmer where they compared an F1 car to an F1 bike. While the bike was faster off the line, the Grand Prix car won hands down when it came to lap time.

You left a few things out. It was a three way race between a F1 Ferrari, a stock GPZ turbo Kawasaki street bike, which would be a moped by todays standards. And the third thing on the track was a 280zx turbo. That stock bike ate up the 280 ZX turbo. An R1 from today would be 20 seconds per lap faster. I would bet that the now 20 year old Ferrari F1 car would still beat a new R!, and I bet it would beat any roadgoing Porsche, Not really anything comparable there.

The Porsche would probably beat a streetbike around a track. But they would not be nose to tail like this videa shows, They each have the parts of the track where they would excell. Fun to watch though. Kevin

What brings bikes so close to cars lately is the advancement in tire technology. But, that said, the fastest means of transportation on the track, street or anywhere is the 4 wheeled variety.
Anywhere you look, the car is faster.
1/4 mile, road race, off road race, endurance, sprint, novice, expert, salt flats, it doesn't matter.
Car every time. It's the rubber.
And if it's raining! Good Bye.
