Help with possible first purchase! Also Carfax Anyone?
I am looking at my first purchase of a 911. The car is a '89 coupe, dark grey metalic?, dove grey interior, 91K miles. The sunroof won't open and there is a small tear in the headliner. Possibly uneven tire wear. What I assume to be normal paint chips around the car. Looks pretty clean and feels tight.
Beginners question: Does this sound ok? weak? average? I shifted at about 4000+rpm. I shifted into 3rd at about 60mph and 4th at 80 mph. Does this say anything abou the cars condition? I am considering having a ppi done and buying this car. The seller will take $16,500. Is this a fair price? Is the dove grey interior desireable? Can anyone run a carfax for me? Vin #WP0AB0918KS120954 I am at the point of feeling a bit ignorant. It was evening when I saw the car (a two hour drive from home), so a close inspection was difficult. Also, I am no expert. The owner is willing to drop the car off at a mechanic of my choosing for a ppi. Any suggested mechanics in Sacramento? (I will place a specific post for this). Any opinions are welcome. I have a very short time frame. Thanks- JP Last edited by JPtahoe; 12-11-2005 at 09:19 PM.. |

Can't tell about the car's condition with the description you've given so far. Pay for a full PPI, if you think this is the one. Otherwise, save your money since PPI's aren't cheap. $16.5K for an '89 Coupe (this is not a 964, right?) sounds like a real good deal if the PPI, Carfax and cosmetics check out fine. Here's a link to the Sac Valley PCA chapter. Email them to ask for recommendations.
